Scots Outlast Lynx, Improve to 2-0 in AMC

Lyon edged Lindenwood University-Belleville inside Becknell Gymnasium this afternoon.

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Coming off a victory in Lyon's first AMC match of the season last night, the Scots took the court hoping for their second AMC win in as many days. Lyon and Lindenwood-Belleville exchanged leads all match, but the Scots had the upper hand this afternoon as Lyon edged Lindenwood-Belleville in five sets (25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-9). Several Scots put together terrific performances in this match, highlighted by Michayla Shanks racking up a season-high 19 kills in the contest.

Lyon improves to 10-5 on the season and 2-0 in AMC play. The Lynx fall to 6-9 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.   
 
GAME FLOW 
The Scots picked up right where they left off last night as the home squad jumped out to an early 7-1 advantage over LUB in the first set. Lyon continued to extend its lead to as many as 12 points before winning the first set by a score of 25-17.

The second and third sets were mirror images as Lindenwood-Belleville took both by the same score, 25-21.

In the fourth frame, Lyon held a slim 14-12 lead over the visitors from Illinois. The Scots would rattle off five consecutive kills, distancing themselves from the Lynx, 19-12. Both sides would exchange points the rest of the stanza, giving Lyon a 25-18 fourth-set win.

As the match kept going, the Scots grew stronger. Lyon opened up an early 4-1 lead in the fifth and decisive set. However, the Lynx would respond, tying the score at six apiece. The Scots used a 5-0 run to extend their lead to 11-6 after an Ellie Embry ace. The Scots would carry that momentum the remainder of the match as an Alley Edwards kill sealed the victory for Lyon in the final set, 15-9.  

KEY STATISTICS
Michayla Shanks followed up her electric performance last night with a season-high 19 kills, 11 digs, and 4 blocks.
Kendra Kelley accumulated a team high 15 digs, while Gracen Ratliff tallied 10 kills and 2 blocks in the contest.  
Ellie Embry notched a team-best 22 assists, while Kaitlyn Jackson added 19.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon will travel to Missouri for two more conference matches on Sept. 27-28. The Scots will square off against William Woods University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, Lyon will battle No. 3 Park University at 1:00 p.m.
