BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team hosted St. Louis College of Pharmacy for the first conference match of the 2019 season for both squads. Led by
Michayla Shanks's 17 kills and 14 digs in the contest, the Scots overwhelmed STLCOP in three sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-22).
Lyon improves to 9-5 on the season and 1-0 in AMC play. The Eutectics fall to 7-6 on the season and 0-1 in conference action.
GAME FLOW
The Scots jumped out to a small lead early in the first set, 6-4. Next, Lyon would go on a 5-0 run to extend their lead to seven points. The Eutectics battled back, but the score would never get closer than five points as the Scots ran away with the first set, 25-14.
Lyon and STLCOP exchanged leads early in the second stanza. Lyon, though, rattled off three consecutive points, making the score 12-8 in favor of the home team. Lyon had answers for everything the Eutectics threw at them as the Scots earned the second-set victory on an
Alley Edwards kill, assisted by
Kaitlyn Jackson.
In the third frame, STLCOP took a 10-7 lead. Lyon would quickly respond as the Scots trimmed STLCOP's lead to just one on a kill by
Michayla Shanks, assisted by
Kendra Davidson. Lyon regained the lead, 14-13, on a
Kendra Kelley kill. The Scots would extend their advantage and clinch the match on a
Gracen Ratliff kill, assisted by
Kaitlyn Jackson.

Michayla Shanks was on fire tonight as she recorded a match-high 17 kills and 14 digs.

Gracen Ratliff added 9.

Kaitlyn Jackson totaled a team-high 27 assists, and
Ellie Embry dished out 15 assists.
