BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's soccer team jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the second half and held on late to defeat Southwestern Christian University by a score of 2-1 Tuesday afternoon.
Lyon improves to 4-3 overall, while Southwestern Christian University falls to 1-3 on the year.
GAME FLOW
The match remained scoreless until midway through the first half. In the 26
th minute,
Rafael Santos made a great pass over the defense to
Marcos Fernandez. Fernandez beat the keeper, finding the back of the net and giving the Scots a 1-0 lead as the halftime whistle sounded.
The Scots continued to send more guys forward in the second half. In the 58
th minute,
Rafael Santos struck a shot from well outside the box. Rafael's shot rocketed past the outstretched arms of the goalie and into the back of the net, extending Lyon's lead to two. The Eagles would respond back, however. In the 71
st minute, Juan Pebacini scored a goal from just outside the box, cutting the Scots' lead to just one. Southwestern Christian University continued to press forward, but the defense of the Scots stayed organized and defeated the Eagles by a score of 2-1 on Tuesday.
