BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's soccer team used a late first-half goal and two second-half goals to defeat Freed-Hardeman University by a score of 3-0 Monday afternoon.
Lyon moves to 5-3 overall, 1-0 in the AMC, while Freed-Hardeman University falls to 3-3 overall, 0-1 in the AMC.
GAME FLOW
The match remained scoreless until late in the first half. In the 44
th minute,
Nate Ayalew connected with
Emanuel Santos on a give and go. Santos took one touch and struck a shot past the FHU keeper, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead as the halftime whistle sounded. The Scots outshot the Lions 11-1 in the first half.
Lyon continued to send more guys forward in the second half. In the 46
th minute,
Diego Mendez took a shot from well outside the box. Mendez's shot rocketed over the keeper's outstretched arms and struck the bottom of the crossbar before landing in the back of the net, extending Lyon's lead to two. In the 61
st minute,
Leo Galdino sent a cross into the box.
James Dalton got on the end of it and headed the ball into the back of the net, giving the Scots a 3-0 lead. The defense of the Scots was excellent the entire afternoon as Lyon limited FHU to just five total shots in the contest, en route to a 3-0 victory over the Lions on Monday.
