BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team begins their season at the Park University Tournament in Parkville, Mo. this weekend. The Scots will battle No. 17 Central Methodist University on Friday at 4:00 p.m. before playing two matches on Saturday. Lyon will take on Park University Gilbert in the first competition on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and wrap up the tournament against St. Ambrose University at 2:00 p.m.

The Scots are coming off a strong showing in their annual Navy-Scarlet Match earlier this week.

The Matchups
No. 17 Central Methodist University:
The Eagles concluded the 2018 campaign with an impressive 32-8 overall record and an appearance in the NAIA Women's Volleyball Tournament. CMU opened their season last weekend at the Evangel Tournament with a pair of 3-0 victories over the University of Mobile and No. 4 Missouri Baptist University. Jane Kickham leads the Eagles with 20 kills on the young season, while Jordan Wolfe, Viviane Viana, and Callie Henson follow closely behind with 17, 16, and 14 kills, respectively. The Eagles also use two setters – Shannon Peters and Giovanna Kuntze – to keep opponents off balance as each setter has totaled 33 assists this year.

Park University Gilbert: This will be the inaugural volleyball season for Park University Gilbert. The Buccaneers have a young team compiled of nine upperclassmen and 15 underclassmen. Park University Gilbert will open their season with matches against No. 17 Central Methodist University and St. Ambrose on Aug. 23, before taking on Lyon College the following day.

St. Ambrose University: The Fighting Bees finished the 2018 season with a 12-21 overall record. SAU kicked off the 2019 campaign by losing three matches in the Nebraska Strong Warrior Invite. Abby Happ leads the Fighting Bees in kills with 42 through the first four matches on the year, while Amber Tomlin has racked up a team-high 103 assists.

Lyon College: Lyon returns a solid nucleus from last year's team, including seven Scots who played in over 90 sets during the 2018 campaign. Michayla Shanks and Gracen Ratliff earned Honorable Mention All-AMC last season, while Ellie Embry and Kaitlyn Jackson combined for 989 assists. Outside hitters Michayla ShanksGracen Ratliff, and Kendra Kelley were electric last year as they totaled 336, 256, and 208 kills, respectively. Lyon's seven newcomers to the 2019 volleyball squad – Erin Haigwood, Stephanie Tucker, Elizabeth Baldridge, Levia Taegtmeyer, Alley Edwards, Cassidy Garrett, and Michaela Shott – will look to make an immediate impact this season too.
