CONWAY, Ark. — Scots volleyball fell to the Central Baptist College Mustangs this evening in four sets (21-25,27-25,19-25,14-25). Lyon is now 1-9 on the season.
Central Baptist built leads of 6-2 and 10-5 in the opening set, while the Scots' early response included kills by
Reyleigh Twist and
Morgan Harrelson and a Central Baptist setting error that brought the Scots within 6-5. The Scots later won seven of eight rallies from 16-10 down, getting three kills from
Pascha Wistrand, kills from Neveah Ghan and Twist and a
Sofia Santis ace to tie the set at 17-17. The Scots pulled even again at 19-19 and 20-20, but Central Baptist scored the next four points and, after Twist's kill made it 24-21, closed the set on a kill for a 25-21 win.
After Central Baptist moved ahead 8-7 in the second set, the Scots answered with five of the next six points, getting two kills from
Keeley Beary and a block by Wistrand and Beary to build a 12-9 lead. Central Baptist came back to tie the set at 13-13 and later moved in front 17-16 before the Scots traded points back behind kills from Ghan,
Ryan Russell and Ghan again. Central Baptist pushed ahead 22-20 and reached set point at 24-22, but Harrelson and Russell answered with consecutive kills to tie the set at 24-24. After Central Baptist went back up 25-24, Ghan tied it with a kill, Ghan and Wistrand combined on a block for a 26-25 Scots lead, and a Central Baptist attack error finished the Scots' 27-25 set win.
The Scots erased an early 7-4 deficit with a four-point run, getting a Beary kill, a Central Baptist bad set, a
Jenna Good ace and an attack error to move ahead 8-7. Central Baptist answered with five straight points, including kills around Scots attack errors, to take a 12-8 lead. The Scots pulled within one at 13-12 on back-to-back Russell kills and again when a Beary kill and another Good ace made it 18-17 Central Baptist. A Scots service error and three attack errors helped Central Baptist move ahead 22-17, and after kills by Twist and Harrelson kept the Scots in the set, Central Baptist closed it 25-19 on a Scots attack error.
Ghan opened the fourth set with a kill for the Scots, but Central Baptist answered with five straight points, including a kill and three service aces, to move in front 5-1. The Scots cut the deficit to 8-5 after kills by Wistrand and Twist, but Central Baptist rebuilt the lead with consecutive kills and later went ahead 14-7 before a Ghan kill and
Ella Gardner ace. A Twist kill brought the Scots within 16-12, but Central Baptist added four more points to reach 21-12 behind a kill, two aces and a Scots attack error. The Scots took back-to-back points to make it 21-14, but Central Baptist closed with the final four points to take the set 25-14.
Twist led the Scots with a season-high 13 kills and added 11 digs. Gardner set a season-high with 21 assists, 14 digs and one service ace, while Good added 14 assists, 10 digs and three aces. Ghan recorded a season-high 10 kills while hitting .250.
The team will travel to the Principia Invitational to face Knox College and Principia on Saturday, September 19th starting at 12:00 PM.
