JOPLIN, Mo. The No. 4-seed Lyon College baseball team and No. 8-seed Park Pirates met in the first elimination game of the 2019 American Midwest Conference Tournament on Thursday morning at Joe Becker Stadium. The Scots' offense scored 13 runs on 15 hits as Lyon earned a 13-3 victory over the Pirates in seven innings.

Lyon improved to 38-19 on the season and will face the loser of No. 2-seed Columbia College and No. 3-seed Missouri Baptist on Friday at 12 p.m. (weather permitting). Park ended its season at 21-24 on the year.

The Scots worked an early lead against the Pirates starting in the bottom of the first inning. Jake Michener and Kylan Barnett reached to open up the frame before Alan West loaded the bases with a bunt single. Troy Strack brought home the first run of the game with a groundout before Kyle West singled home Barnett to extend the Scots' lead to 2-0. A stolen base and a passed ball in the bottom of the second allowed Dalton Ernest to come around and score from second and pushed the Scots' lead to three.

Park cut into the Scots' lead with a run in the top of the third on an RBI-single by Wes Jacobs before Lyon added to its total in the bottom half of the frame. Kyle West opened up the inning with a lead-off double that sailed over the head of the Pirates' right fielder. Tristan Buschow followed with an infield single. The Pirates tried to throw Buschow out at first on the play but the throw sailed wide and allowed West to come around to score on the play. A second error by the Park defense in the inning allowed another run to cross the play for the Scots as Lyon extended its lead to 5-1.

After Park scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, the Scots scored eight-straight runs, including a pair of four-run innings and earned the run-rule victory over the Pirates.

Mack Larson earned the win on the mound for the Scots as he allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out 10 over six innings pitched.

Kyle West, Zane Pritchard and Tanner Seibel collected three hits each for the Scots.
