CONWAY, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team swept the series with No. 24 Central Baptist College on Saturday.
Lyon moves to 28-9 on the season, 15-5 in the AMC. Central Baptist College goes to 28-13 on the year, 17-3 in the AMC.
Game One: Lyon 5, Central Baptist 3
The hosts from Conway scratched the first run of the game across in the bottom of the first inning. Allison Seats hit a two-out solo home run over the left field fence, giving the Mustangs a 1-0 lead heading into the second.
Lyon responded with a big inning in the top of the third.
Cheyenne Herrera led off the frame with a single to left field. After a
Kendra Kelley sac bunt,
Megan Micke drew a walk putting runners on first and second. With two outs in the frame,
Addison Harmon crushed a 2-RBI double to left field, plating Herrera and Micke.
Cheyenne Black, then, delivered a double of her own to score Harmon and give Lyon a 3-1 lead.
The Scots would score another run in the top of the fourth inning. After a
Mikayla Mullen single to lead off the inning and sac bunt by
Siobhan Taylor,
Cheyenne Herrera crushed an RBI single right back up the middle to extend Lyon's lead to three runs.
The Mustangs would answer right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning as Kaylee St. John delivered a 2-RBI single to shallow right, cutting Lyon's lead to just one after four innings of play.
The score would remain 4-3 in favor of Lyon until the top of the seventh inning.
Kendra Kelley led off the frame with a single. After stealing second base, Kelley advanced to third on a sac bunt by
Megan Micke. With one out,
Addison Harmon delivered a single into left field, plating Kelley and giving the Scots a 5-3 lead.
The Mustangs brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but Platt was up to the challenge as she induced a groundout to Micke at short, earning Lyon a 5-3 victory over No. 24 Central Baptist College.
Katelyn Platt earned the complete game victory as she gave up three runs, while striking out two batters. Offensively,
Addison Harmon,
Mikayla Mullen, and
Cheyenne Herrera led the charge for the Scots. Harmon delivered two hits, including a double, two RBI's and one run scored. Mullen was a perfect 2-2 at the plate, including a double, and a run scored, while, Herrera had a pair of hits and one RBI in the contest.
Game Two: Lyon 8, Central Baptist 7
The Scots opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. After Faith Cormesser drew a walk and a failed fielder's choice,
Riley Shaw delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Cornmesser and giving the Scots a 1-0 lead.
Mikayla Mullen, then, was hit by the pitch, loading the bases for Lyon. Next,
Siobhan Taylor drew a six pitch walk, doubling Lyon's lead.
Cheyenne Herrera, then, was hit by the pitch, scoring Shaw from third and giving the Scots a 3-0 advantage.
The Mustangs would answer right back in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run home run by Allison Seats, making the score 3-2 Lyon after one inning of play.
In the top of the third inning, the Scots loaded the bases with
Breanna Langford at the dish. Langford drew a bases loaded walk, scoring
Mikayla Mullen from third. Next,
Megan Micke crushed a two-out full count grand slam, giving the Scots an 8-2 lead.
The Mustangs scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third inning on an RBI single by Rachael Jones and an RBI fielder's choice by Baleigh Jackson. This made the score 8-4 in favor of Lyon.
CBC scored a run in each of the next two innings. First, Katlyn Gordon hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the fifth inning. Next, Alyssa Estrada delivered an RBI single in the sixth inning, making the score 8-6 in favor of Lyon.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Allison Seats led off the frame with a solo home run over the center field fence, shrinking Lyon's lead to just one. CBC would put the tying run on first base, but Platt retired the final batter via pop out, securing the victory for the Scots, 8-7, and giving Lyon the series sweep over No. 24 Central Baptist College on Saturday.
Shyanne Pedroza started the game in the circle for the Scots. Pedroza threw three innings, while allowing four runs.
Katelyn Platt entered the game in the fourth and pitched the final four innings, while allowing three runs and striking out two. Offensively,
Megan Micke paced the Scots as she totaled four RBI's on the biggest hit of the game – a grand slam back in the third inning.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots go on the road as they take on Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Tuesday, Apr. 16 for a non-conference doubleheader with the first game starting at 1:00 p.m.
