TEXARKANA, Tex. – The Lyon College softball team split the series with Texas A&M-Texarkana on Tuesday, 6-4 and 3-0.
Lyon moves to 29-10 on the season, 15-5 in the AMC. Texas A&M University-Texarkana goes to 17-12 on the year, 10-5 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC).
Game One: Lyon 6, Texas A&M-Texarkana 4
The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. A pair of walks put runners on first and second with two outs in the frame.
Kendra Kelley came up big as she delivered a 2-out RBI double to left field, scoring
Mikayla Mullen from second and giving the Scots a 1-0 lead.
Megan Micke, then, followed up with a double of her own, plating
Cheyenne Herrera and
Kendra Kelley. This gave Lyon a 3-0 advantage heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Scots would add on to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. After a
Cheyenne Black single,
Riley Shaw delivered an RBI single, plating
Libby Shipp.
Mikayla Mullen, then, hit a single into left field, scoring Shaw and giving the Scots a 5-0 advantage. After a single by
Siobhan Taylor put runners on the corner with one out,
Cheyenne Herrera executed the squeeze bunt, putting Lyon up 6-0.
The Eagles responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hannah Cooper delivered a solo home run with one out in the frame. Jaden Lance, then, hit an RBI single, while Jewels Caro delivered a 2-RBI single to left field, cutting Lyon's lead to just two.
The score would remain 6-4 in favor of Lyon heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles brought the tying run to the plate, but Platt was up to the challenge as she induced a pop out to
Siobhan Taylor at second, earning the Scots a 6-4 victory over Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
Katelyn Platt earned the complete game victory as she gave up four runs, while striking out one batter. Offensively,
Addison Harmon,
Cheyenne Black, and
Siobhan Taylor led the charge for the Scots as each recorded two hits in the contest.
Game Two: Texas A&M-Texarkana 3, Lyon 0
The Eagles opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as Jaden Lance hit a leadoff double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Jewels Caro.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Eagles doubled their lead as Kacey Maines led off the frame with a solo home run over the left field fence.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Texas A&M-Texarkana's Hannah Cooper delivered a one-out solo home run over the center field fence, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
The Scots were unable to get anything going in the top of the seventh inning and fell to the Eagles, 3-0.
Shyanne Pedroza threw all six innings, while allowing three runs. Texas A&M Texarkana's Lauryn Henson kept the Lyon batters off balance as she would go on to earn the complete game shutout.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots return home for their final two regular season doubleheaders against Hannibal-LaGrange University on Friday and Columbia College on Saturday. The first game on Friday will begin at 2:00 p.m., while the first pitch for Saturday is set for 12:00 p.m.
