Game One: CC 8, #15 Lyon 2
The Cougars got on the board first in the top of the second as a misplayed pop up allowed Josh Mobley and Blade McKee to come around and score.
Columbia would tack two more runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning. A lead-off hit, bunt single, and a sacrifice bunt put Cougars on second and third base with only one out. Next, Ethan Howser hit a sac fly to deep right field, plating one run. Chase Urhahn followed up the sac fly by lacing a 2-out RBI-double off the right field wall to extend Columbia's advantage to four.
The visitors from Columbia, Mo. would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth stanza as Dalton Beamer hit a lead-off infield single and came around to score on a Justin Randle sac fly to left field.
However, the Scots would cut into the Cougars lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Troy Strack singled with one out in the frame. Next,
Tristan Buschow smacked a single to center field. The Cougar outfielder allowed the ball to sneak under his glove, which enabled Stack to cross home plate as Buschow advanced to third base. Lyon pushed across another run on a 2-out single by
Zane Pritchard, plating Buschow to trim Columbia's lead to three.
Columbia, though, would rally in the top of the seventh as they picked up three more runs on a walk and three consecutive RBI doubles, extending the lead to 8-2.
The Scots could not get anything going in the final inning as the Cougars picked up the win in the first game of the series, 8-2.
Marcelo Terrazas suffered the loss on the mound as he allowed eight runs (five earned) on ten hits while recording two strikeouts over seven innings pitched.
Zane Pritchard finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI for the Scots.
Game Two: CC 13, #15 Lyon 5
The Cougars opened up the nightcap with eight runs in the first inning as the Scots attempted to come back from the early deficit.
Ryan Clack drove in the first run of the game for the Scots with an RBI-single in the bottom of the second inning.
Columbia College added to its lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third as the Scots responded once again in the bottom half of the inning.
Kylan Barnett started the rally with a lead-off single to center before he came around to score on a double by
Alan West. As the throw came back into the infield, it sailed wide of a pair of Cougars and allowed West to move up to third on the play. A wild pitch later in the inning allowed West to score. Buschow followed up with a walk before he came around to score all the way from first on an RBI-double by
Andrew Schnitzius.
Dalton Ernest came on to run for Schnitzius and scored on an RBI-single by
Tanner Seibel to put the Scots within four at 9-5.
That would be as close as the Scots would get the rest of the way, however, as CC added a run in the fourth, sixth and ninth innings.
Ryan Porras took the loss on the mound for the Scots.
Barnett led the Scots offensively as he finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored.
