BATESVILLE, Ark. – In the regular season finale, the Lyon College softball team was swept by Columbia College on Saturday, 10-9 and 11-0.
Columbia goes to 30-10 on the year, 21-3 in the AMC. Lyon moves to 31-12 on the season, 17-7 in the AMC. The Scots will be the 4 seed in the AMC Tournament and take on Freed-Hardeman University.
Game One: Columbia 10, Lyon 9
The Scots jumped out to an early lead as
Megan Micke led off the bottom of the first with an infield single. After a pair of errors by Columbia loaded the bases for the Scots,
Cheyenne Black drew a walk to bring in Micke from third.
Riley Shaw, then, crushed a no-doubt grand slam over the right field fence, giving Lyon a 5-0 lead. The Scots would add one more in the inning as
Cheyenne Herrera singled and came around to score on a misplayed grounder, giving Lyon a 6-0 advantage.
Lyon would tack on one more run in the bottom of the second inning.
Addison Harmon led off the frame by drawing a walk. After Harmon stole second,
Cheyenne Black slapped a single into right field, putting runners on the corners with no outs.
Riley Shaw, then, delivered an RBI single into left field, scoring Harmon and giving the Scots a 7-0 lead after two innings of play.
The Cougars responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning as Natalie Dummitt hit a 2-out 2-RBI double, scoring Libby Marko and Molly Carter.
In the top of the fifth inning, Molly Carter struck a solo home run over the center field fence, cutting the Scots lead to four runs.
The Cougars would score six runs in the top of sixth. First, Avgustina Arbova hit a sac fly into left field, scoring Natalie Dummitt from third. Next, Olivia Denslow ripped a 2-RBI double, plating Jacey Meyer and Samantha Myers. After a sac fly by Libby Marko tied the game at seven, Natalie Dummitt delivered a 2-out 2-RBI single, giving Columbia a 9-7 lead.
In the top of the top of the seventh inning, Karolina Arbova hit a solo home run over the center field fence, giving the Cougars a 10-7 advantage.
Riley Shaw led off the bottom of the seventh with a single to left field. After a pair of walks loaded the bases,
Siobhan Taylor drew a walk, scoring Shaw from third. A misplayed pop up allowed the Scots to cut Columbia's lead to just one. However, the Scots were unable to scratch across the tying run and fell to Columbia by a score of 10-9.
Shyanne Pedroza threw all seven innings, while striking out two for the home squad. Offensively,
Riley Shaw led the charge for the Scots as she recorded 3 hits, including a grand slam, tallied 5 RBI's, and scored twice.
Game Two: Columbia 11, Lyon 0
The Cougars opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Mackenzie Kasarda hit a 2-run home run over the center field fence.
In the top of the second inning, Olivia Denslow struck a 3-run home run over the left field fence, giving the Cougars a 5-0 lead.
The Cougars would tack on a run in the top of the third inning as Olivia Denslow delivered a 2-out RBI single, scoring Samantha Myers from second base.
In the top of the fourth, Mackenzie Kasarda slapped an RBI double into right field, scoring Molly Carter. Allison Keen, then, hit an RBI single into left field, giving the Cougars an 8-0 advantage.
Columbia scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Olivia Denslow led off the inning with a single and came around to score later on an errant throw. Natalie Dummitt, then, had an RBI groundout, scoring Libby Marko. Next, Jacob Meyer hit a 2-out RBI single into left field, giving the Cougars an 11-0 lead.
The Scots were unable to get anything going off Columbia's Kaitlyn Nottleman as she kept the Lyon hitters off balance and threw a no-hitter, en route to an 11-0 victory for the Cougars.
Riley Shaw started the game in the circle as she threw three innings, allowing five earned runs.
Breanna Langford and
Shyanne Pedroza each threw an inning in relief.

The Scots get set for the American Midwest Conference Tournament beginning on April 30
th as they take on No. 5 Freed-Hardeman University at 12:00 p.m.
