BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College softball team swept Hannibal-LaGrange University on Friday, 4-2 and 4-3.
Lyon moves to 31-10 on the season, 17-5 in the AMC. Hannibal-LaGrange goes to 20-20 on the year, 10-12 in the AMC.
Game One: Lyon 4, Hannibal-LaGrange 2
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
Megan Micke led off the frame with a single to right field. The very next pitch she stole second and would come all the way to score as the ball kicked into left field, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead.
Faith Cornmesser, then, worked a walked and
Addison Harmon hit a single right back up the middle. With two outs in the frame,
Riley Shaw delivered a 2-RBI single to right field, plating Cornmesser and Harmon and giving the Scots a 3-0 lead.
The Scots would add on to their lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Cheyenne Black led off the inning with a single to center. After
Riley Shaw was hit by a pitch and
Mikayla Mullen laid down a sac bunt, the Scots had runners on second and third with one out. Siobhan Tyalor, then, executed the squeeze play flawlessly, scoring
Skyler Burke from third base and giving the Scots a 4-0 advantage after three innings of play.
The Trojans responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning as Katie Rose delivered an RBI single, scoring Jordyn Alford and cutting Lyon's lead to three.
The score would remain 4-1 in favor of Lyon heading into the seventh inning. The Trojans scored one run on a solo home run by Sydney Newell, but
Shyanne Pedroza was up to the challenge as she would strikeout the final batter of the game, earning the Scots a 4-2 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange. Pedroza earned the complete game victory as she gave up just two runs, while striking out six. Offensively,
Megan Micke and
Riley Shaw led the charge for the Scots. Micke recorded two hits, a stolen base, and scored a run, while Shaw totaled two RBI's in the contest.
Game Two: Lyon 4, Hannibal-LaGrange 3
The Scots opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
Megan Micke led off the frame with an infield single. After Micke stole second and Cornmesser laid down a sac bunt,
Addison Harmon delivered an RBI single back up the middle, plating Micke and giving Lyon a 1-0 lead after one.
Lyon would tack on a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. After a pair of 2-out singles by
Cheyenne Herrera and
Kendra Kelley,
Megan Micke reached base on an error by the HLG first baseman as she was unable to catch the throw from the shortstop, allowing Herrera and Kelley to score.
With one out in the bottom of the third inning,
Cheyenne Black hit a double to right center.
Siobhan Taylor, then, laced a 2-out RBI single to right field, scoring
Melanie Mooney and giving Lyon a 4-0 lead.
The Trojans would respond in the top of the fourth with a run of their own as Dani Wilcoxson laced an RBI single into left field, scoring Kendra Jacob from second.
The score would remain 4-1 in favor of Lyon heading into the seventh inning. The Trojans would score a pair of runs and put the tying run on third base with two outs.
Riley Shaw was up to the challenge, however, as she struck out the last HLG batter, stranding the tying run on third and earning the Scots a 4-3 victory. Shaw earned her first complete game victory as she gave up just one earned run, while striking out three. Offensively,
Megan Micke and
Kendra Kelley led the charge for the Scots. Micke recorded two hits, two stolen bases, two RBI's, and scored a run, while Kelley totaled two hits and a run scored in the contest.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots take on Columbia College on Saturday with the first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
