BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 20th-ranked Lyon College baseball team had its offense rolling all day as the Scots collected 20 hits and scored 24 runs between its first two games of a doubleheader against Williams Baptist on Thursday afternoon. With the offense firing on all cylinders and solid pitching, the Scots swept the first two games in their series against the Eagles by scores of 14-6 and 10-0. Lyon improved to 18-4 (6-2 American Midwest Conference), while WBU dropped to 8-12 (2-6 AMC).

Game One: Lyon 14, WBU 6

Williams Baptist struck first with a run in the top of the first, but the Scots responded with a pair of five-run innings between the second and third frames to take control of the game. The Scots drew four walks around a strikeout to open up the frame to push their first run across in the bottom of the second inning. Two errors by the Eagles' defense accounted for two more runs before Alan West drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Scots added their final run in the frame on a wild pitch to take a 5-1 advantage over WBU.

The Scots added another run to its total on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third before West blasted his first-career collegiate home run – a grand slam just inside the foul pole in left to extend the Scots' lead to 10-1.

Lyon put the game away for good with three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Troy Strack and Kylan Barnett opened up the inning with back-to-back singles before West drove in his sixth run of the game with an RBI-single to center. Zane Pritchard reached on an infield single later in the inning before Ryan Clack drove in two more runs with a two-run single to left.

WBU added five runs late, but the game was already out of reach as the Scots cruised to a 14-6 victory in game one.

Barnett and West collected two hits each in the game, while West drove in six runs.

Marcelo Terrazas earned the win as he allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts over four innings pitched.

Game Two: Lyon 10, WBU 0

Mack Larson had his best outing of the season as he tossed a complete-game one-hitter in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader. Larson was in complete control of the mound as he allowed just one runner to reach third base all day and shut down the Eagles in order in four of his seven innings of work. Larson ended the game with 10 strikeouts and allowed just one walk.

With Larson pitching a gem on the mound, the Scots' offense matched his intensity and scored 10 runs on 10 hits in the nightcap.

The Scots scored a run in both the second and third innings as Tanner Seibel got things started for Lyon with a one-out double in the bottom of the second. Seibel did not have to wait long before Dalton Ernest singled to center to plate Seibel and gave Lyon a 1-0 lead. The Scots added another run in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Tristan Buschow to extend their lead to 2-0.

A lead-off triple by Barnett opened up another rally for the Scots in the bottom of the fifth as he came around to score on a wild pitch. After a double by West, Buschow followed with a double of his own to plate West.

The Scots used a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth to add four more runs to their total. With the bases loaded thanks to three walks by the Eagles' pitching staff, West drew a walk of his own to score the first run in the frame. Andrew Schnitzius cleared the bases in the next at-bat for the Scots with a three-run double into the game in left-center field.

Lyon added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off victory, 10-0.

Barnett collected three hits in the game and scored twice, while West added two hits and three runs scored.

The Scots and Eagles will wrap up their series with a single nine-inning game on Friday afternoon at Scots Field. First pitch is set for noon.
