ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College softball team concluded the road trip by splitting with Missouri Baptist University on Saturday afternoon.
Lyon moves to 23-8 on the season, 10-4 in the AMC. Missouri Baptist University goes to 9-12 on the year, 3-3 in the AMC.
Game One: Missouri Baptist 3, Lyon 1
The hosts from St. Louis scratched the first run of the game across in the bottom of the first inning. After Amber Mobbs hit a one-out double, Cami Meddows delivered an RBI single to center field, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead heading into the second inning.
The Spartans would tack on another run in the bottom of the third as Jordan Corby doubled to deep left field and came around to score, giving MBU a 2-0 lead after three innings of play.
The Scots answered back in the top of the fourth inning. Cheyenne Black led off the frame by crushing a solo home run over the left field fence. This got the visitors from Batesville on the board and cut the deficit in half.
The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Spartans until the bottom of the sixth inning. MBU's Amber Mobbs hit her second double of the game and came around to score, extending MBU's lead to two.
The Scots were unable to get anything going in the top of the seventh inning and fell to the Spartans in the first of two games by a score of 3-1. Katelyn Platt pitched all six innings in this one as she gave up two earned runs, while striking out six batters. Offensively, Faith Conrmesser led the charge for the Scots as she recorded two hits in the contest.
Game Two: Lyon 7, Missouri Baptist 0
The Scots opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Riley Shaw led off the frame with a single to right field. A sac bunt by Siobhan Taylor put Shaw on third and Cheyenne Herrera on second with one out. Kendra Kelley, then, laid down a perfect bunt, scoring Shaw from third and giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. Next, Mikayla Mullen executed the squeeze bunt to perfection and doubled Lyon's lead as Herrera came into score.
In the top of the fourth inning, Cheyenne Herrera laced a 2-out double down the left field line. Siobhan Taylor, then, followed up with an RBI single to right field, extending Lyon's lead to three. After Kendra Kelley hit an infield single to short putting runners on the corners, Mikayla Mullen legged out an infield hit to shortstop, plating Taylor and giving the Scots a 4-0 advantage.
The Scots would tack on an insurance run in the fifth inning as Cheyenne Herrera laced a 2-out RBI single through the short-third hole, scoring Faith Cornmesser from third and putting Lyon up by five.
In the top of the seventh, the Scots loaded the bases with a trio of singles by Faith Cornmesser, Addison Harmon, and Cheyenne Black. Cornmesser scored on an error by MBU, giving the Scots a 6-0 lead. Then, Siobhan Taylor struck a 2-out RBI single to right field, plating Addison Harmon.
Shyanne Pedroza kept the MBU hitters off balance all game and induced a groundout with two outs in the seventh to give the Scots a 7-0 victory over the Spartans. Pedroza was spectacular all afternoon as she earned the complete game shutout, while striking out four. Offensively, Siobhan Taylor and Cheyenne Herrera paced the Scots as each tallied two hits and at least one RBI in the contest.

The Scots return home for Senior Day to take on Stephens College for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.
