WALNUT RIDGE, ARK. – The 19th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team ran its winning streak up to eight games as the Scots defeated Williams Baptist, 72-39, in American Midwest Conference play on Thursday night. Lyon improved to 20-3 (16-2 AMC), while WBU fell to 14-9 (10-8 AMC).

Lyon broke the game open with a big first half against the Eagles as a three-pointer by Liz Henderson at the 6:37 mark in the first quarter gave the Scots a 10-2 lead. The Lady Eagles managed to pull back within four, but a three-point play by Katie Turner followed by a jumper by Lizzie Allgood gave the Scots a 15-6 lead after the first quarter.

The second quarter was a similar story for the Scots as Lyon opened up the period with a 14-0 run to extend its lead to 29-6. The Scots continued to hold a 20-plus point advantage the rest of the quarter as a pair of free throws by Madison Riley gave Lyon a 37-12 lead at halftime.

A three-pointer by Ali Tucker, followed by a jumper by Samantha French pushed the Scots' lead over 30 points in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Lady Eagles hung with the Scots in the third period and cut the deficit to 51-29 just before the end of the quarter on a three-pointer by Katlyn Ferguson.

The Scots put the Lady Eagles away for good midway through the final quarter as a bucket by Turner opened up a 10-0 run that put the Scots ahead, 63-32. The Scots' lead hovered around 30 points the rest of the way as they cruised to a 72-39 victory.

Turner led the way for the Scots with a game-high 17 points, while Henderson and Riley chipped in 14 and 10 points, respectively. Kelsey Abney led the Lady Eagles with 12 points in the game.

The Scots will return home to Becknell Gymnasium on Saturday as they host No. 1 Freed-Hardeman in their Play4Kay game. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m.
