First up for the Scots was Steven Weatherall. Weatherall went up against Sean Sesnan from Williams Baptist University. This match was a very tight battle, and Weatherall ultimately edged Sesnan by a score of 6-4. This gave the Scots an early 3-0 lead.
After Williams Baptist won by forfeit in the 133 pound weight class, Omar Gasmann squared off against Pierre Dowling. In a high-scoring affair, Dowling proved too much for Gasmann this time as well as Dowling won 16-10.
Next, Carlos Cuevas wrestled Keith Clay of Williams Baptist. Cuevas wrestled exceptionally and pinned Clay at the 3:55 mark, knotting the score at nine apiece. The Eagles responded, though, as Daryus Webb defeated Roger Gasmann in the 157 pound weight division, giving WBU a six point advantage.
Derrick Top responded for the Scots as he went up against CJ Cara. Top overwhelmed Cara en route to an 18-3 victory, shrinking the Eagles lead to just one.
Williams Baptist would go on a run in the next three matches as Jonathan Stewart, Jeff Haley, and Braden Zini edged Bruce Whitehead, Rueben Vedia, and Isaiah Hennings, respectively. This gave WBU a 31-14 advantage.
In the final match of the night, Noah Wilson faced off against Tyler Giorgini in the 285 pound weight class. Wilson dominated Giorgini, winning by a score of 6-1. The Scots' upset bid, however, would fall short as Williams Baptist University defeated Lyon 31-17.
Coach's Corner "31-17 does not tell the whole story about this dual. Our kids were competitive in just about every match we wrestled. In the 157 lb. bout, we were winning late in the match and got caught and pinned. You flip that one match and the final score is 25-20. Our best wrestling is still ahead of us and it is coming at just the right time. Did I mention we had 7 freshmen in our lineup tonight?
