SHREVEPORT, La. – A three-run first inning put the Lyon College baseball team behind the 8-ball earl on in a 14-4 loss to No. 25 LSU-Shreveport on Tuesday night. The Pilots followed with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth. The lead was 13-2 after four and though the Scots chipped away from there, the Pilots closed it out for the win. Lyon dropped to 2-2, while LSU-Shreveport improved to 7-0.
The first four batters reached to open up the first inning for the Pilots as Jordan Trahan drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the first run of the game. After a fielder's choice cut down a runner at the plate, LSU-Shreveport added a second run on another bases-loaded walk. The Pilots added one more run in the frame on a sacrifice fly by Miguel Morgan.
The Scots added a run in each of the next two innings as Andrew Schnitzius singled home a run in the second, while Troy Strack hit a solo home run in the third.
The Pilots got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third and broke the game open with nine more in the fourth.
Lyon began to chip away at the Pilots' lead in the top of the fifth as Reese Chovanec opened up the frame with a lead-off single. Chovanec moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and came around to score later in the inning on an RBI-double to left-center field by Strack. The Scots added another run in the sixth inning as Tanner Seibel scampered home on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 13-4.
LSU-Shreveport scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Josh Mason.
Strack, Seibel and Alan West all collected two hits each for the Scots. Caleb Lasseigne, Austin McNicholas and Chase Spatafora all went 3-for-4 at the dish for the Pilots.
The Scots will return to action and open up a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday at home with a doubleheader against St. Francis (Ill.) beginning at noon.
