Scots Win Two on Final Day of Tri-Match

Game One: Lyon 3, William Penn 1
The score remained knotted at zero until the third inning. In the top of the third, the Statemen loaded the bases with no outs. Lexi Riccardi hit a fielder's choice to score Sonia Reddy from third base. The Scots, however, limited the damage at just one.

Each team would have chances to score in the fourth and fifth inning, but both pitchers battled out of jams, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of WPU.

In the bottom of the sixth, however, the Scots would answer back. Megan Micke led off the bottom half of the inning with a double to left field. After a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout, Lyon would bring Riley Shaw up to bat. Shaw beat out an infield single to the second baseman, knotting the score at one apiece. Mikayla Mullen laced a double to the left field fence, bringing in the go-ahead run. The home team would not be done scoring, though, as Addison Harmonfollowed up Mullen's clutch double with an RBI single of her own to give the Scots another insurance run and a 3-1 lead heading to the top of the seventh inning.

Platt gave William Penn no chance for a rally as she continued her dominance in the circle. Lyon's ace would secure the win, finishing off the Statesmen with a strikeout and a pair of pop outs in the final frame.

Platt overwhelmed WPU batters all game as she collected three strikeouts and only walked one batter en route to registering her sixth complete game of the young season. Offensively, Megan Micke and Addison Harmon led the way for the Scots as they both recorded two hits in the game.

Game Two: Lyon 10, University of St. Mary 2
The Scots wasted no time scoring in this one as Lyon scored two runs in the bottom of the first. After Cheyenne Black worked a two-out walk and Mikayla Mullen hit a double to left center, Addison Harmon hit a sharp ground ball to second that kicked into right field, plating Black and Mullen. The Scots would take the two run advantage into the second inning.

Lyon would score one run in each of the next three innings. In the second inning, Siobhan Taylor delivered an RBI single to score Lexie Eppes. In the third, Anna Beth Conditt hit a 2-out RBI single to left center, plating Dakota Smith. After the Spires scored two runs in the top of the fourth to trim the lead in half, Cheyenne Black knocked a single into center, scoring Faith Cornmesser. This put the Scots up 5-2.

Lyon would tack on some insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. With one out in the frame, Anna Beth Conditt crushed a no-doubt solo home run over the left field fence. After a single by Cheyenne HerreraRiley Shaw delivered a pinch-hit RBI double over the center fielder's head. Melanie Mooney pinch ran for Shaw and came around to score, giving the Scots an 8-2 lead.

In the sixth inning, the Scots opened the bottom half of the frame with a Cheyenne Black walk. Mikayla Mullen, then, crushed a double to left scoring the pinch runner, Camryn LongAddison Harmon singled to right center, scoring Mullen and earning the 10-2 run-rule victory over the University of St. Mary on Monday.

Lyon was led in the circle by Faith Cornmesser. The freshman from Nevada earned the complete game victory pitching six innings, while allowing just two earned runs and striking out six. Offensively, the Scots were paced by Anna Beth Conditt who had three hits in the game, including a solo home run.
