Baseball Sweeps William Woods To Open AMC Play

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball team took the first two games of its three-game series against William Woods yesterday by scores of 5-1 and 7-3. After clinching the series with the two victories, the Scots completed the series sweep with an 8-6 win over the Owls on Monday afternoon at Scots Field.

Lyon improved to 14-2 (3-0 American Midwest Conference) with the win, while WWU dropped to 5-9-1 (0-3 AMC).

The Scots got off to a fast start against the Owls with a big second inning. Tristan Buschow got hit by a pitch in the side to open up the rally before he wound up on third after stealing second and advancing an extra base on an error. Ryan Clack followed with a walk before Dalton Ernest moved up him up into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. With two runners in scoring position, Troy Strack came up next for the Scots. Strack roped a double to left to bring home the Buschow and Clack and gave the Scots a 2-0 lead. Kylan Barnett followed with a bloop single to left-center to plate Strack. Kyle West followed the base knock by Barnett with a double to put runners on second and third before Alan West singled home the pair and gave the Scots a 5-0 lead.

Lyon extended its lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Strack and Barnett opened up the frame with a lead-off walk and a single before Kyle West hit his fourth home run of the year – a three-run shot to left.

William Woods managed to pull back with two runs late after a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and the eight, but Ethan Denney came on an worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.

Strack led the way offensively as he finished 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Barnett and Kyle West both finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while West drove in the three runs.

Mack Larson improved to 3-0 on the bump this season as he allowed three runs on four hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

The Scots will travel to Henderson State on Tuesday for a game under the lights at 6 p.m.
