Scots Split on First Day of Tri-Match

Game One: Lyon 8, St. Mary 0
The Scots wasted no time putting runs on the board as Lyon scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Megan Micke opened the game with a leadoff walk and a stolen base. With one out, Cheyenne Black delivered an RBI double to plate Micke and give the Scots a 1-0 lead. After an Addison Harmon bunt single put runners on first and third, Cheyenne Herrera crushed a 2-out double over the right fielder's head, making the score 2-0 in favor of the Scots.

Lyon opened the game up in the bottom of the third inning. Faith Cornmesser worked a walk to begin the frame. After a Cheyenne Black single, Breanna Langford delivered a no-doubt 3-run home run over the left field fence. The Scots were not done there, though. Cheyenne Herrera hit a 1-out single, before Riley Shaw crushed a pinch hit 2-run home run over the right field fence. This gave the Scots a 7-0 advantage heading into the top of the fourth inning.

The Scots brought the seven run advantage into the bottom of the fifth inning. Lyon opened the frame with a walk by Herrera and a bunt single by Kendra Kelley. With two outs, Micke delivered a single between the 5-6 hole, earning the Scots the 8-0 run-rule victory.

Katelyn Platt was dominant in the circle as she earned the complete game shutout. Platt struck out 9 batters, while holding the Spires to just two hits all game. Cheyenne Black paced the Scots with 3 hits.

Game Two: William Penn 3, Lyon 1
William Penn University started off quickly, scoring three runs in the first inning off a 2-run double by Lexi Riccardi and a 2-out RBI single by Lindsey Lanbert.

The Scots responded with a run of their own in the second inning. Cheyenne Herrera worked a lead-off walk. Then, with two outs, Siobhan Taylor ripped an RBI double to deep left field, trimming WPU's lead to just two.

The score would remain 3-1 heading into the final inning. The Scots put runners on first and second with two outs, but could not come up with the game-tying hit and fell to the Statesmen by a score of 3-1. For the game, Lyon left 12 runners on base.

Lyon was led in the circle by Shyanne Pedroza. Pedroza threw seven innings, while allowing three earned runs. William Penn's Kiya Harper pitched three strong innings, while Karlee-Rose Perry relieved her and finished off the game by throwing four scoreless innings.
