No. 17 Scots Blow Past Hornets In Second Half

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 17th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team opened up its final home stand of the 2018-19 regular season with an 85-42 victory over Harris-Stowe. The Scots pulled away from the Hornets in the second half as Lyon outscored HSSU, 51-20, over the final two quarters. Lyon moved to 22-6 (18-5 American Midwest Conference) with the win, while Harris-Stowe dropped to 14-14 (11-12 AMC).

Prior to the start of the game, the Lyon College women's basketball team honored Ali Tucker on becoming the 20th player to join the 1,000-Point Club in program history and Madison Riley on breaking the program's all-time assist record.

The Scots took an early 5-4 lead over HSSU in the first four minutes of the game and began to separate themselves from the Hornets after a jumper by Katie Turner at the 5:15 mark in the first quarter. Turner added another bucket before the Scots extended their lead to 10 at 17-7 after Marleigh Dodsonscored on an offensive rebound. Harris-Stowe cut the deficit back to single-digits late in the quarter on a three-pointer by Kambri Davison to put the score at 17-10 in favor of the Scots.

Harris-Stowe pulled back within five points twice in the opening minutes of the second quarter before a jumper by Liz Henderson opened up a 9-2 run for the Scots that extended the lead back to double-digits. The lead hovered around 12 points the rest of the quarter as a pair of free throws by Henderson gave the Scots a 34-22 lead at the half.

During halftime, the Lyon College Athletic Department honored Gary Bebow for his longtime support of Lyon College and its athletic department. The athletic department also recognized members of the Lyon College volleyball and football teams on their success this past season.

The Scots ran away with the game in the second half as Lyon outscored Harris-Stowe, 24-14, in the third quarter and 27-6 in the final period for the 43-point victory.

Samantha French and Riley paced the Scots offensively as the two players scored a game-high 17 points each.

The Scots will end their regular season at home on Saturday against Lindenwood-Belleville at 1 p.m. The Lyon College women's basketball team will honor its five seniors – Tressa LinsonRandi ThompsonOumy NdoyeSamantha French and Ali Tucker – at the conclusion of its game on Saturday.
