BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Randall University after defeating the Saints three times on Saturday. The Scots won by scores of 9-1, 4-3 and 18-0. Lyon improved to 9-2, while Randall dropped to 2-17.
Game One: Lyon 9, RU 1
Lyon took a 3-1 lead after four innings in the books in the opening game of Saturday's tripleheader against the Saints. Both teams scored a run each in the first inning before the Scots tacked on one more in the third and fourth innings.
The Lyon College offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. A pair of errors surrounded a lead-off walk by Ryan Clack and a walk by Dalton Ernest which led to the first run in the inning for the Scots. After a sacrifice fly by Kylan Barnett plated another run, a pair of errors by RU led to two more runs for the Scots. Tristan Buschow singled home the final two runs in the inning for the Scots as Lyon took game one of the day, 9-1.
Alan West finished 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Scots.
Mack Larson earned the win as he allowed one run on five hits with nine strikeouts over six innings pitched.
Game Two: Lyon 4, RU 3
Lyon took an early 3-0 lead in game two after a run in the first and two more in the bottom of the second. After RU rallied back to tie the game with three runs in the fourth, Lyon regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Denney came into the game to pitch in the seventh and shut the Saints down in order to record the save.
Troy Strack collected two hits in the game for the Scots.
Brock Beacham earned the win in relief after striking out two of the three batters he faced in the sixth.
Game Three: Lyon 18, RU 0
A one-out walk by Barnett led to the first run of the game for the Scots in the series finale in the bottom of the first. Barnett stole second to move into scoring position before he came around to score later in the inning on an RBI-single by Andrew Schnitzius.
Lyon added to its lead with another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI-ground out by Ernest. The Scots extended their lead to 4-0 with two more runs in the bottom of the third. Schnitzius brought home the first run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk, before Cole McSwain drove in another run with a sacrifice fly to left.
The Scots broke the game open with six runs in the fourth and eight more in the sixth.
Kyle West, Schnitzius and Buschow all collected two hits each in the series finale for the Scots.
Tanner Johnson earned the win on the bump after throwing four innings of no-hit ball.
The Scots will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Blue Mountain, Miss., to face Blue Mountain College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
