CONWAY, Ark. – The 17th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team opened up the final road trip of its 2018-19 regular season with a 71-57 victory at Central Baptist College as junior guard Madison Riley became the program's all-time leader for career assists. Riley recorded her 367 career assist during the game as she passed Brandi Love (1990-94), who previously held the record with 366 assists during her career. The Scots moved to 21-4 (17-3 American Midwest Conference), while CBC dropped to 15-9 (11-9 AMC).
The Mustangs gave the Scots a fight in the opening minutes of the game as the score was knotted up at 5-5 before a jumper by Antoinette Shrepee gave CBC a 7-5 lead with just over 4:30 remaining in the first quarter. Lyon quickly overtook the lead with back-to-back three-pointers by Ali Tucker and Liz Hendersonbefore Riley capped an 8-0 run with a layup. The two teams went on to trade buckets the rest of the quarter as Lyon grabbed a 17-12 lead over CBC.
Central Baptist cut the deficit to three to open up the quarter after a pair of free throws by Shrepee before Lyon used a 6-0 run thanks to a basket each by Keli Romas, Riley and Samantha French to extend its lead to 23-14. CBC managed to pull back within four midway through the quarter, but a jumper by Lizzie Allgood sparked another run for the Scots. Henderson added to the run with a bucket of her own before Romas and Oumy Ndoye added two points each to give the Scots a 39-28 lead at halftime.
The Scots extended their lead to 20 points twice in the third quarter, before a 6-0 run by the Mustangs over the final 2:39 cut the deficit to 56-42.
The Scots' lead hovered around the mid-teens throughout the fourth quarter. History was made for the Scots after Riley grabbed a defensive rebound at the 2:44 mark. Riley pushed the ball up the court and found Tucker on the wing for a jumper, which gave Riley her record-breaking assist.
Riley paced the Scots offensively as she finished with a team-high 15 points. Tucker (13 points), Henderson (12 points) and Turner (10 points), also finished in double-digits scoring. Shrepee scored a game-high 20 points for CBC.
The Scots will travel to Fulton, Mo., on Thursday night for an AMC matchup at (RV) William Woods beginning at 5:30 p.m.
