ST. LOUIS – The 21st-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team trailed Harris-Stowe, 58-47, entering the fourth quarter on Thursday night. The 11-point deficit did not faze the Scots, however, as Lyon outscored HSSU, 28-10, over the final 10 minutes and earned a 75-68 comeback victory over the Lady Hornets.
Lyon improved its record to 7-1 (4-0 American Midwest Conference), while HSSU fell to 1-6 (0-3 AMC).
The Scots set the tone right from the beginning to start the fourth quarter as
Madison Riley opened up 9-0 run with a bucket before
Alexis Moore pulled Lyon within two points at 58-56 with a jumper of her own. The big run forced HSSU to take a timeout as Ladaijha Watson answered with a bucket for the Lady Hornets before back-to-back three-pointers by
Jade Giron and
Liz Henderson tied the score at 62-62 with just under five minutes remaining.
After another bucket by Watson gave HSSU a 64-62 lead,
Katie Turner scored the next seven points of the game for Lyon and gave the Scots a 69-64 advantage. The Scots sealed the win converting on all six of their final free throws to earn the seven-point victory.
Harris-Stowe jumped out to a 19-12 lead over the Scots after the first quarter before Lyon trimmed the deficit to 39-37 at the half. The Lady Hornets tried to pull away from the Lyon in the third period as HSSU outscored the Scots, 19-10, in the period, but the Scots were too much in the fourth quarter.
Turner matched her career-high for the third time this season as she finished with a game-high 22 points. Henderson added 18 points, while Riley chipped in 17. Watson led HSSU with a team-high 17 points.
