BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 20th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team rallied back from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter and earned a 71-64 comeback-victory at Philander Smith College last Tuesday in non-conference action. The Scots will return home on Tuesday to host Williams Baptist in an American Midwest Conference matchup at 5:30 p.m. for Ugly Christmas Sweater Night.
THE MATCHUP
LYON: The Scots enter Tuesday night's game at 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the AMC. Last Tuesday's victory at PSC was the 300th-career win at Lyon for Head Coach Tracy Stewart-Lange, who is in her 15th season at the helm for the Scots. Liz Henderson was the key factor in the win as she finished with a game-high 26 points, including 18 in the second half, against the Lady Panthers. Henderson is third on the team in scoring this season, averaging 12.8 points per game. Madison Riley leads the team with 16.0 points per game, followed by Katie Turner (13.5 ppg), Henderson and Jade Giron (11.3 ppg).
WBU: Williams Baptist is currently 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the AMC. Taylor Freeman and Tia Brazell are the top two players on the Lady Eagles' roster this season. Freeman is averaging a team-high 15.4 points per game and leads the team with 24 steals. Brazell is second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game and leads WBU with 33 assists.
SERIES HISTORY
The Scots hold a 27-7 lead over the Lady Eagles in the all-time series between the two teams. Lyon swept last year's two-game series against WBU, which included an 84-49 win on Nov. 27, 2018, in Batesville.
UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS
Following Tuesday night's game against WBU, the Scots will head to Missouri for two American Midwest Conference matchups. Lyon will face Harris-Stowe on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and end the road trip on Saturday at Hannibal-LaGrange at 1 p.m.
