No. 20 Women’s Basketball Returns to Action at CofO Classic

The 20th-ranked Lyon College women’s basketball team will play at the College of Ozarks Classic this weekend

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The 20th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team broke the century mark in their season-opening win against Champion Christian College on Nov. 7. The Scots defeated CCC by a score of 101-30. The Scots will return to action for the first time since their season opener this weekend at the College of Ozarks Classic. The two-day classic will take place this Friday and Saturday in Point Lookout, Mo.

THE MATCHUP

LYON: Five Scots scored in double figures against Champion Christian, led by Madison Riley's game-high 20 points. Jade Giron did it all of the Scots against CCC as she finish with 18 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Liz Henderson, Katie Turner and Marleigh Dodson also finished in double figures with 11 points each for the Scots.  

JBU: John Brown enters this weekend's classic at 2-2 on the year after dropping a road game at Evangel on Nov. 12 by a score of 81-69. The Golden Eagles use a balanced attack on the offensive side of the court as five players are averaging between 10-14.5 points per game. Tarrah Stephens leads the way, averaging 14.5 points per game, followed by Taylor Fergen (12 points per game), Marta Matamala (11.5 points per game), Sara Williams (11 points per game) and Jordan Martin (10.5 points per game).

CofO: College of the Ozarks entered the year ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Lady Bobcats are currently 4-1 on the season entering this weekend. Abby Oliver is the top player in the CofO lineup. Oliver is averaging a team-high 16.8 points per game. Oliver is shooting 50% from the field (30-for-60), and 46.9% from beyond the arc (15-for-32). Ashley Forrest is second on the team in scoring as she is averaging 10.4 points per game.

SERIES HISTORY

The Scots are 5-5 in the all-time series against John Brown and 3-6 all-time against CofO.

UP NEXT FOR THE SCOTS

Following this weekend's CofO Classic, the 20th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team will open up American Midwest Conference play next week. The Scots will host Lindenwood-Belleville on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and Missouri Baptist on Saturday at 12 p.m.
