PARAGOULD, Ark. – Hunter Daley and the Lyon College men's basketball team improved to 3-0 to start the season as the Scots picked up a 75-60 win at Crowley's Ridge College behind Daley's game-high 22 points. CRC slipped to 0-5 to open up the year following the loss.
Lyon opened up the game on a 12-2 run during the first 10 minutes of the contest as Grant Patterson gave the Scots some separation with a pair of three-pointers during the stretch. CRC would answer back and trim the deficit to three just four minutes later as a bucket by the Pioneers' Kyle Moore put the score at 16-13 in favor of the Scots. Daley found his groove offensively and connected on his next three shots from beyond the arc and extended the Scots' lead to double-digits once again at 25-15. CRC managed to pull back within five points down the stretch, but a late free throw by Daley gave the Scots a 31-25 advantage at the half.
Lyon began to pull away from CRC midway through the second half as a jumper by Patterson in the paint ignited a 9-0 run for the Scots. Winston Peace capped off the run with a free throw as the Scots took a 55-36 lead over the Pioneers with 9:55 remaining. CRC pulled back within 10 points at 67-57 with 2:12 after a three-pointer by Beau Gramling. That would be as close as the Pioneers would get the rest of the way, however, as Zalek Sharp connected on a pair of jumpers around a layup by Ray Price before Dominique Loyd hit two final free throws.
Randy Stanley finished with 20 points to lead CRC in scoring.
The Scots will head out to Alabama and play in the Talladega College Classic. The Scots will play Faulkner on Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. and will conclude tournament play on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. against Rust College.
