ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team has qualified for the American Midwest Conference Tournament as the No. 6 seed, the conference office announced.
The Scots are scheduled to play the No. 3 seed Columbia College at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 12. The match between the Cougars and Scots will take place inside the Southwell Complex on the campus of Columbia College. If the Scots win the quarterfinal match against the Cougars, they would advance to the semifinals to play the winner of the match between the No. 2 seed Missouri Baptist University and the No. 7 seed St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Lyon is currently 20-14 on the season and finished conference play with a 7-5 record. This will be the team's eighth consecutive AMC Tournament appearance. The Scots are riding a three-match win streak as Lyon has overpowered Stephens College, the University of St. Mary, and Hannibal-LaGrange University in their last three contests.
Michayla Shanks leads the charge for the Scots with 283 kills, 284 digs, and 57 aces. Her 57 aces are tops in the American Midwest Conference.
Kendra Kelley and
Gracen Ratliff have notched 275 kills and 248 kills, respectively.
Alley Edwards just recorded her 200
th kill in Lyon's most recent victory over Hannibal-LaGrange University last weekend.
Kaitlyn Jackson paces the Scots in assists with 528, while
Ellie Embry follows closely behind with 495 assists during the 2019 campaign. Defensively,
Maria Eleni Bampiri continues to lead Lyon's front line as she has accumulated 67 total blocks this season.
The Columbia College Cougars enter the AMC Tournament with a 26-4 record and 10-2 mark in conference play. The Cougars are also the ranked in the No. 9 spot in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll. Columbia leads the conference in four offensive categories – hitting percentage (.257), kills per set (13.8), assists per set (12.9), and service aces per set (2.3). Luisa Ferreira paces the Cougars with a conference-high 1,204 assists, while Kiersten Anderson and Sidney Branson lead the Cougars in the kills department with 362 and 346 kills, respectively. Anderson has also registered a team-high 56 service aces and team-best 66 total blocks during the 2019 campaign.
Lyon and Columbia last met a little over a week ago on Nov. 1. The Scots fought hard against the Cougars the entire match, but Columbia bested Lyon (25-19, 25-15, 26-24).
