COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team squared off against one of the NAIA's best volleyball programs tonight. The Scots tested No. 7 Columbia College in each set, but the Cougars were up to the task this evening as CC swept Lyon (25-19, 25-15, 26-24)
During the contest,
Michayla Shanks recorded her 1,000
th career dig as a member of the Lyon College women's volleyball team. The senior outside hitter becomes only the ninth person in Lyon College history to reach this milestone.
Lyon drops to 17-14 on the season and 5-5 in the American Midwest Conference, while No. 7 Columbia College improves to 25-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.
GAME FLOW
The Scots took an early 5-3 lead in the first set, but Columbia quickly earned their first lead of the game by winning the next three rallies at 6-5. The visitors from Batesville re-took the lead after a
Michayla Shanks kill, 8-7. Each side exchanged points until the Cougars took a 21-16 advantage late in the first stanza. Lyon trimmed the lead to four points on two separate occasions, but the Scots could not get any closer in the first set as CC won the set, 25-19.
In the second frame, the Cougars jetted out to a 9-3 advantage. Lyon cut CC's lead to just one point after a
Gracen Ratliff kill, 10-9. However, the Cougars went on a 15-6 run to clinch the second set, 25-15.
The third frame featured 11 ties and nine lead changes as both teams were firing on all cylinders. With the score knotted at 18 apiece, the Scots rattled off four consecutive points to extend their lead, 22-18. Lyon continued to push the Cougars to the brink as the visitors from Batesville held a 24-20 advantage late in the third stanza. Columbia College, though regained their composure and won the next six rallies to take the third set, 26-24, and match, 3-0.

Lyon is back in action tomorrow for the Stars Triangular at Stephens College. Lyon will take the court against Stephens College at 2:00 p.m. and compete against the University of Saint Mary at 4:00 p.m.
