COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team notched a conference victory over Stephens College before outlasting the University of St. Mary in an epic five-set affair at the Stars Triangular this afternoon. Both matches took place inside the John and Mary Silverthorne Arena on the campus of Stephens College.

Michayla Shanks tallied her 200th ace of her career in the Scots' match against Stephens College. The senior outside hitter becomes only the fourth person in Lyon College history to accomplish this feat.
Lyon improves to 19-14 on the season and 6-5 in the American Midwest Conference. Stephens College falls to 4-22 and 1-11 in the AMC, while the University of St. Mary's win streak ends at 16 matches as they move to 25-8 during the 2019 campaign.

Ellie Embry gave Lyon an 11-6 advantage. The Stars closed the gap at 11-9 after rattling off three consecutive points. The Scots, though would immediately answer with a 7-0 run to extend their advantage, 18-9. Lyon continued their flawless execution as the Scots took the first set, 25-17.
The second set featured eight ties and four lead changes. The Stars held a six-point advantage late in the frame after a service ace by Stephens College's Maggie Howe, 22-16. Lyon regained their composure and converted on the next six rallies to knot the score at 22 apiece. Each side exchanged points until the Scots captured the set, 27-25.
The third set was very similar to the second one as the winner was not determined by 25 points. Similar to the second frame, Lyon raised their level of play as the pressure increased. With the score knotted at 25 apiece, the Scots won the next two points to claim the third set, 27-25, and complete the sweep over the Stars.
University of St. Mary
Lyon jumped out to an early 11-6 lead in the first stanza. University of St. Mary continued to cut into the deficit until they tied the score at 15. Lyon would never relinquish the lead, though, as the Scots used great setting and terrific hitting to take the first set, 25-20.

Kaitlyn Jackson, evened the score at 8 apiece. However, USM used a 10-5 run to take a five-point advantage, 18-13. The Scots tried to trim the Spires' lead, but USM was up to the task as they took the second frame, 25-20.
Facing a six-point deficit in the late stages of the third frame, Lyon rattled off four straight points to cut the Spires advantage to just two points, 21-19. However, USM regained their composure and converted on four of the next five rallies to win the third set by the same score they won the second, 25-20, to give the Sprires a 2-1 lead as the teams headed into the fourth set.
With the score tied at 11 midway through the fourth set, the Scots won the next five rallies to take a 16-11 advantage. With Lyon looking to extend the match to a fifth set, USM responded to cut the deficit to just two points, 21-19. Both sides exchanged points until a
Michayla Shanks ace sealed the fourth set for the Scots, 25-22.
The Scots continued the momentum they gained in the previous set to jet out to a 10-5 lead. Lyon continued their phenomenal play as
Gracen Ratliff clinched the fifth set on one of her 12 kills in the contest, 15-12, to earn the victory, 3-2, and halt USM's win streak at 16 matches.

The Scots host Hannibal-LaGrange University for Senior Day on Friday, November 8
th at 7:00 p.m. This will be Lyon's final regular season match inside Becknell Gymnasium this season.
