Scots Absorb Loss to Freed-Hardeman

Lyon lost to Freed-Hardeman University tonight in an AMC contest

HENDERSON, Tenn. – The Lyon College volleyball team traveled to Tennessee to square off against conference foe, Freed-Hardeman University, tonight. The Scots battled the Lady Lions the entire contest, but FHU's Claire Walker (16 kills) and Kasey Donegan (14 kills) proved to be too much for Lyon to overcome as the hosts defeated the Scots in straight sets (25-13, 25-18, 25-18).

Lyon dips to 10-9 on the season and 2-3 in the American Midwest Conference, while Freed-Hardeman University improves to 11-7 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

GAME FLOW
In the first frame, the Scots jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage. However, the Lady Lions quickly responded, scoring the next four points to take a 5-4 lead. Lyon retook the lead at 9-8 following a Kaitlyn Jackson service ace. FHU would quickly get back on top as the hosts used a 17-4 run to close the first set.

With FHU leading 7-5 in the early stages of the second stanza, the Scots trimmed the deficit to just one point after one of Alley Edwards's nine kills on the night. That is the closest the visitors from Batesville would get in the second set, though, as FHU claimed a 25-18 second-set victory.

In the third set, the Lady Lions sprinted out to an early nine-point cushion, 14-5. Lyon would battle back, cutting FHU's lead to just four points, 20-16, after blocks by Courtney Erby and Maria Eleni Bampiri. Both sides exchanged points the rest of the match as the Lady Lions hung on to complete the sweep.
