BATESVILLE, Ark. – Park University used five first-half goals to defeat Lyon College by a score of 7-0 on Sunday.
Lyon moves to 7-9 overall, 4-7 in the AMC, while Park University improves to 8-5 overall, 8-2 in the AMC.
GAME FLOW
The Pirates got on the board first as Maddy Russel sent a cross into the box for a cutting Anna Witherell. Witherell tapped the ball into the back of the net, giving Park a 1-0 advantage. In the 10
th minute, Park's Serena Ortiz took a free kick and rocketed a shot into the top portion of the goal, doubling Park's lead. In the 12
th minute, Anna Witherell scored her second goal of the match, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Pirates. Park would tack on two more goals in the half off a penalty goal by Maddy Russell, and a goal by Lenvix Ochieng, giving the Pirates a 5-0 lead after the first 45 minutes.
Park scored the first goal of the second half as Olivia Lainez struck a shot from well outside the box into the back of the net, making the score 6-0 in favor of Park. The Pirates would score once more in the 80
th minute on a free kick goal by Abby Groom. The Scots attempted to respond, but were unsuccessful and fell to Park by a score of 7-0 on Sunday.
