BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team resumes conference play on Friday as the Scots host in-state rival, Central Baptist College. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this home conference tilt will be Lyon Volleyball's "Block Out Cancer" Match to help raise awareness and relief efforts for breast cancer. The Scots will sport pink uniforms during the match and have pink decorations all around Becknell Gymnasium. The volleyball team will also have a silent auction and raffle off prizes Friday night."The Block Out Cancer" Match between Lyon and CBC will begin on Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. The following day, the Scots will battle Philander Smith College at 10:00 a.m. inside Becknell Gymnasium.
The Matchups
Central Baptist College: The Mustangs sport a 12-13 record and 2-6 mark in conference play. CBC is riding a five-match win streak as the Mustangs have won each of their last three contests in five sets. Offensively, the Mustangs are led by Khyra Echols as she has tallied 269 kills on the season. CBC uses two setters – Taylor Folsom (389 assists) and Hope Johnson (349 assists). Alizea Garza headlines CBC's defense as she has compiled a team-best 397 digs, while Kelsy Knox has recorded a team-high 33 blocks.
Philander Smith College: The Lady Panthers bring a 13-7 record into Batesville on Saturday after falling to Edward Waters College in a five-set thriller last week. Offensively, everything runs through Jakayla Shrum as the junior has accumulated 373 assists through the squad's 20 matches this season. Diamond Dewberry has recorded a team-high 121 kills during the 2019 campaign, while Lela Collier has etched a team-leading 206 digs.
Lyon College: The Scots (15-12, 4-4 AMC) are playing high-level volleyball after beating College of the Ozarks on the road in four sets on Tuesday night. Michayla Shanks holds the team lead in kills (207), aces (43), and digs (192). Kendra Kelley and Gracen Ratliff are 11 and 14 kills away from reaching 200 on the season, respectively. Kaitlyn Jackson is closing in on 400 assists as she has totaled a team-best 397 assists, while Ellie Embry has added 350 assists. Maria Eleni Bampiri continues to frustrate opponents at the net as she has tallied a team-high 52 blocks during the 2019 campaign.

Central Baptist College: Lyon has dominated this matchup, winning the last 13 meetings against the Mustangs. In the most recent matchup on Oct. 5, 2018, the Scots swept CBC (25-11, 25-18, 25-21).
Philander Smith College: Lyon has overwhelmed the Lady Panthers the last 11 times the teams have met on the hardwood. In the most recent matchup earlier this year, Lyon bested PSC in four sets (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-12).
