BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College men's soccer team used a first-half goal and three second-half goals to defeat Hannibal-LaGrange University by a score of 4-2 Saturday afternoon.
Lyon moves to 11-4-1 overall, 7-1-1 in the AMC, while Hannibal-LaGrange University falls to 9-4-1 overall, 5-1-1 in the AMC.
GAME FLOW
The score remained knotted at zero until late in the first half. In the 38
th minute,
Raimundo Cabello delivered a pass to
Leo Galdino who sent the ball out wide to
Emanuel Santos. Santos made a couple nice moves to shake a defender and curled a shot around the Hannibal-LaGrange defense and into the back of the net, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead. Lyon would take a one-goal lead into the half. In the first 45 minutes, Lyon outshot HLG, 9-4.
The Scots picked up where they left off in the first half as
Leo Galdino was the first to get to a loose ball just in front of the last line of defense for HLG. Galdino cut the ball inside and struck a shot from just inside the box that went past the goalie into the back of the net, doubling Lyon's lead. In the 52
nd minute,
Vitor Fujiwara played the ball out wide to
Emanuel Santos. Very similar to the first-half goal, Santos made a nice move to beat his defender and snuck a shot past the outstretched arms of the HLG keeper and into the net, giving Lyon a 3-0 advantage. HLG would respond with a pair of goals, though. First, in the 66
th minute, Jaume Garcia took a shot from just outside the box into the back of the net. Then, in the 73
rd minute, Juan Pablo Suzao struck a shot into the back of the net, trimming Lyon's lead to just one. In the 86
th minute, though,
Marcos Fernandez found a cutting
Rafael Santos. Santos took one touch and delivered a shot from well beyond the box into the back of the net, earning Lyon a 4-2 victory over the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans on Saturday afternoon.
