Scots Tripped Up By NCAA Division II Harding University

Lyon Volleyball lost to Harding University in straight sets tonight

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team squared off against NCAA Division II Harding University inside Becknell Gymnasium tonight. The Scots battled HU in every set, but came up short in this match as the visitors swept Lyon (25-18, 25-19, 25-13).

Lyon moves to 14-12 on the season and 4-4 in American Midwest Conference play, while Harding University improves to 14-6 during the 2019 campaign.
 
GAME FLOW 
Harding University started quickly in the first set as the Lady Bisons took a 5-0 lead. The Scots would find their rhythm in the middle of the frame to trim HU's lead to just one point, 18-17. Two rallies later, Lyon cut the lead to one point on a Gracen Ratliff kill, assisted by Kaitlyn Jackson. However, HU won the next six points to take the set, 25-18.   

Both sides exchanged leads throughout the early stages of the second stanza. However, the Scots took the lead, 12-11, after an Alley Edwards kill, assisted by Ellie Embry. Harding would respond quickly as the visitors won the next four rallies to take a 15-12 advantage. Lyon tried to retake the lead, but HU was up to the task as they claimed the second set, 25-19.

The Lady Bisons carried the momentum they gained at the end of the second set into the third frame as HU opened up the third stanza on an 8-2 run. Lyon tried to battle their way back in the set, but the visitors were too much for the Scots tonight. Harding would eventually win the third set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

KEY STATISTICS
Ellie Embry recorded a team-high 17 assists, while Kaitlyn Jackson added 14 in the contest.
Gracen Ratliff and Kendra Kelley each tallied 8 kills.
Erin Haigwood and Michayla Shanks each registered 10 digs, while Courtney Erby notched a pair of blocks.
- Harding University accumulated 10 more kills and 4 more assists than the Scots tonight.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
The Scots will have a week off before their next road match against College of the Ozarks on Oct. 22. The non-conference tilt between Lyon and C of O will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Point Lookout, Missouri.
