Scots Earn Big Win over Lady Bobcats Tonight

Lyon College Volleyball defeated College of the Ozarks, 3-1

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Lyon College volleyball team traveled to Missouri for a non-conference matchup against College of the Ozarks tonight. After dropping the first set of the match, the Scots overpowered the Lady Bobcats in the next three sets to defeat College of the Ozarks for the first time in program history (20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23).

Lyon improves to 15-12 on the season and 4-4 in American Midwest Conference play, while College of the Ozarks falls to 14-12 overall.

GAME FLOW
After dropping the first set, the Scots hit their stride in the following frames. In the second stanza, Lyon jumped out to a 15-6 advantage. C of O trimmed the Scots lead to one point, 17-16. However, the visitors from Batesville quickly extended their lead to four points, 20-16, after an Alley Edwards kill, assisted by Kaitlyn Jackson. Both sides exchanged points the remainder of the set until Michayla Shanks served up an ace to clinch the second frame, 25-18.

There were several lead changes in the early stages of the third set. With Lyon trailing 22-20 late in the third stanza, the Scots played spectacular as the visitors rallied to win the next five points to claim a third-set victory, 25-22.

Lyon carried the momentum they gained at the end of the third frame into the fourth stanza as the visitors jumped out to an early 11-5 advantage. The Lady Bobcats would respond, though, as C of O knotted up the score at 23 apiece. Just like the previous sets tonight, Lyon played the best when the pressure was at its highest as the Scots won the next two points to take the fourth set, 25-23, and match, 3-1.

COACH'S CORNER
"Big win tonight! I'm so excited for the team. We have never beat College of the Ozarks, so that makes winning tonight extra special. It was a full team effort, where everyone played their role accordingly. Our seniors stepped up to the occasion after a shaky 1st set. I'm incredibly proud of them." – Coach Ray Green
