BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team resumed conference play with a test against Harris-Stowe State University. The Scots dominated from start to finish in this matchup as Lyon easily swept the Hornets (25-18, 25-17, 25-22).
Lyon improves to 13-9 on the season and 4-3 in American Midwest Conference play, while Harris-Stowe State University falls to 1-15 overall and 0-6 in conference action.
GAME FLOW
The Scots and Hornets exchanged leads early in the first set. With the score tied, 18-18, Lyon rattled off seven consecutive points to claim the first set by a score of 25-18.
The Scots carried the momentum they gained at the end of the first set and jumped out to a 6-2 advantage in the second stanza. While the Hornets would fight back, Lyon would never relinquish the lead as the Scots took the second set, 25-17.
The third frame was the most competitive set of the night. One of
Courtney Erby's six kills in the contest gave Lyon a 16-12 advantage. A few points later, HSSU responded with a 4-0 run to trim Lyon's lead to just a single point, 18-17. Lyon immediately countered with three consecutive points of their own to extend their lead, 21-17. The Hornets would close the gap at 24-22, but an
Alley Edwards kill down the middle of the court earned the Scots a third-set win, 25-22, and completed the sweep.
