Scots Drop Non-Conference Clash with Lady Bobcats

Lyon College Volleyball fell to College of the Ozarks in straight sets Tuesday evening

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Lyon College volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to College of the Ozarks Tuesday evening. The Scots battled with the Lady Bobcats for three competitive sets. However, the visitors from Missouri were too much as the Lady Bobcats prevailed in three sets over Lyon (25-22, 25-16, 25-20).

Lyon drops to 10-8 on the season and 2-2 in the American Midwest Conference, while College of the Ozarks improves to 13-8 overall.
 
GAME FLOW 
The Lady Bobcats jumped out to an early 4-1 advantage in the first set. However, the Scots quickly responded, cutting C of O's lead to just one, 8-7. C of O, then, rattled off six consecutive points to take a 14-7 lead. The Scots cut the deficit to just two with a pair of blocks by Alley Edwards and Gracen Ratliff, 23-21. Lyon was unable to cut into the deficit anymore and dropped the first set, 25-22.   

C of O jetted out to another early advantage as they took an 11-4 lead in the early stages of the second stanza. The Scots cut into the lead on a Levia Taegtmeyer kill, making the score 21-15. However, this is the closest the set would get as the Lady Bobcats took set two by a score of 25-16. 

College of the Ozarks got off to another good start as they led 9-4 in the third frame. The Scots responded with an 8-2 run to take a 12-11 lead, capped off by a Maria Eleni Bampiri kill, assisted by Ellie Embry. With the match knotted at 15, the Lady Bobcats rattled off five straight points to put the match out of reach as C of O completed the sweep and took the final set, 25-20.  

KEY STATISTICS
Maria Eleni Bampiri led the Scots with 4 blocks in the contest.
Gracen Ratliff notched a team-high 12 kills, while Kendra Kelley registered a team-best 15 digs.
Ellie Embry tallied a match-high 3 aces. 
- The Scots committed 9 more errors than the Lady Bobcats in the contest.

WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE SCOTS
Lyon is back in action on Friday and Saturday against Freed-Hardeman University and Williams Baptist University. The Oct. 4 match between the Scots and Lions begins at 7:00 p.m., while the Oct. 5 tilt featuring Lyon and WBU will commence at 1:00 p.m.
