ST. LOUIS – For the first time in over a month, the 18th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team played away from Becknell Gymnasium. The Scots opened up their two-game road trip in an American Midwest Conference battle at Harris-Stowe. Both teams put on an offensive showcase throughout the game, but it was the Hornets who came out on top in the end, 75-72. Lyon fell to 12-3 (8-2 AMC) after the loss, while HSSU improved to 8-6 (5-4 AMC).

The scoreboard lit up early for the Scots and Hornets as a pair of free throws by Madison Riley made it a 13-9 game in favor of Lyon just five minutes into the game. Harris-Stowe came back and tied the score at 13-13 and again at 15-15 before a three-pointer by Ali Tucker gave the Scots an 18-15 lead. The Scots continued to hold their advantage until a jumper by HSSU's Surina Finnie knotted up the score at 19-19 with just under 30 seconds left in the quarter. Harris-Stowe would add one final bucket just before the end of the quarter to take a 21-19 lead over the Scots.

Harris-Stowe controlled much of the second quarter as the Hornets used a 14-4 run over the first seven minutes to extend their lead to 35-23 over the Scots. Lyon would cut the deficit to single-digits with a quick, 5-0, run of its own after a bucket by Lizzie Allgood and a three by Liz Henderson, but the Hornets added another basket late on a layup by Jordan May to take a 37-28 advantage at the half.

After a fairly even third quarter by both teams as the Scots outscored the Hornets, 20-19, Lyon attempted a comeback in the final period. Lyon rallied back in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter and tied the game at 58-58 with 7:26 left to play on another three by Henderson. The Hornets would eventually regain the lead at 68-62, only to see the Scots continue to chip away. Henderson started the rally with a pair of free throws before two buckets by Katie Turner and another score by Samantha French gave the Scots a 72-71 lead with just over 30 seconds remaining. The Hornets called a timeout to draw up a play and out of the break, got a bucket by Jordan May to overtake the lead at 73-72. HSSU forced two turnovers to hold their one-point advantage and extended its lead to three after a pair of free throws by Takesia Barnes. The Scots had one final chance to tie the game and had a good look at it, but the Hornets were able to hold on for the win.

Riley paced the Scots offensively with a team-high 21 points, while May finished with a game-high 23 points for the Hornets.

The Scots will end their brief two-game AMC road trip on Saturday at Lindenwood-Belleville. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 1 p.m.
