In the final competition of the day, Steven Weatherall got Lyon off to a great start by pinning Bluefield College's William Anders at the 2:57 mark. In the 141 pound weight class, Omar Gasmann defeated Hunter Alto by technical fall. In the next two matches, Lyon's Carlos Cuevas and Roger Gasmann each earned victories for the Scots. Cuevas defeated his opponent in a tight match by a score of 14-10, while Roger earned six points for the Scots via forfeit. This put the score at 20-6 in favor of the Scots.
Lyon then lost three consecutive matches, giving Bluefield College a 23 -20 lead. With only two matches left, the Scots needed to earn victories in both matches. In the 197 pound weight class, John Bentley earned a victory by forfeit, putting the Scots up 26-23.
Now, it was all up to Noah Wilson in the 285 pound weight class. Wilson faced Matthew Bourne of Bluefield College. Noah dominated the match and at the 2:52 mark, pinned Bourne. This gave the Scots six points and a 32-23 victory over the Bluefield College Rams.
Coach's Corner
"Anytime you wrestle four duals in a day it's going to be a tough day. However, when three of those four are nationally ranked, you really are going to have a tough day.
I think we went out in that first dual and got a little shell shocked with Campbellsville's physicality. It took us a couple of duals to settle down and start wrestling hard. Once we did that, we started winning matches. The really good part is we closed out 2018 by winning our last match against Bluefield, 32-23. Now it's time to enjoy some time off with our families before we get back after it in the new year." – Coach Tom Erikson
