No. 20 Scots Defeat Pirates, Improve Winning Streak To Five

PARKVILLE, Mo. – The 20th-ranked Lyon College women's basketball team opened up their two-game American Midwest Conference road trip with a 65-49 win at Park, which marked the fifth win in a row for the Scots. Lyon improved to 5-1 (3-0 AMC), while Park fell to 3-4 (2-2 AMC).

Park challenged the Scots early as the two team were deadlocked at 6-6 before a pair of three-pointers gave the Pirates a 12-7 lead with 3:34 left in the first quarter. The Scots raced back into the game with a three-pointer by Liz Henderson and a bucket each by Samantha French and Madison Riley to tie the score at 14-14 after the first period.

Oumy Ndoye ignited the Scots in the opening minutes of the second quarter with four straight points. Henderson would go on to add four straight points of her own before French and Riley got into the mix on offense with another bucket each of their own to give the Scots a 24-16 advantage. The Pirates managed to cut the deficit in half near the end of the quarter as Cautia Wadood accounted for the final five points for Park.

An 11-2 run midway through the third quarter proved to be key for Lyon as the Scots found themselves ahead by 15 at 45-30. The Pirates managed to pull within 10 at the end of the third quarter and once again at the start of the fourth, but Ndoye and Riley teamed up for six straight points over a two-minute stretch to extend the Scots' lead to 17 at 63-46. Park attempted one final comeback, but another layup by Ndoye put the game away for good.

Four Scots – French, Riley, Ndoye and Ali Tucker – scored in double figures, led by Riley's 15 points. Riley grabbed 11 boards to go along with her 15 points for her second double-double of the season. French and Ndoye both scored 13 points each, while Tucker added 10. Henderson nearly collected her first double-double of the season as she finished with eight points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. Wadood led the Pirates with a game-high 16 points.

The Scots will look to extend their current winning streak to six games when the take on Stephens College in another AMC road contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
