Kyle Phelps finished his first season as the head football coach at Lyon College in 2016 and led the Scots to their first ever three victories in program history. Phelps was promoted to head coach of the Scots football program on July 29, 2016. He was originally hired as recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach at Lyon College when the institution re-instated the football program in 2013. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2015, while keeping his other duties.

Phelps is from Brandon, Fla., but attended Lyon College and played on the Scots' baseball team under then head baseball coach Kirk Kelley. He came to Lyon after transferring from Baldwin-Wallace College in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. He is a Lyon College graduate and received his Master's degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the spring of 2016.

In addition to serving as an assistant or head coach in various baseball teams in Texas and Oklahoma, he was an assistant coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan University with Kelley, while serving as travel coordinator. Phelps coached at the University of Central Arkansas and comes back to Lyon after his second coaching stint at OWU.

Phelps' recruiting territories for the Scots football team includes California, Oregon, Washington and southeast Texas.

Kyle and his wife, Allison, reside in Batesville. They have one son, Rhett, born in 2016.
