Calvin Powell joined the staff in 2018 after coaching at former Central States Football League (CSFL) member Texas Wesleyan the past two seasons. Powell served as the offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator and quarterbacks coach at TWU. In his first season at Lyon in 2018, Powell was in charge of coaching the offensive line and the run game coordinator. Powell began his coaching career as an intern at the Michael Johnson Performance Center before taking a position at Green Hill School as an offensive line and assistant defensive line coach.

After leaving Green Hill in July 2009, Powell became the tight ends and running backs coach at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. He also served as the resident director at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Powell then took a coaching position at another former CSFL member, Langston. Powell began his first season at Langston in 2010 as the football offensive graduate assistant coach before being promoted to the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

He later returned to Green Hill to serve as the offensive coordinator and the head coach of the junior varsity team.

Following his return to Green Hill, Powell took a coaching position at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy where he was in charge of the offensive line and the running game. Powell helped lead St. Michael’s to a District Football Championship and coached three all-district players and one second-team all-state honoree.
