BATESVILLE, Ark. — Fighting Scots Football opened their season facing the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in Bad Boy Mowers Stadium. Scots were unable to get the win falling 58-7. Lyon is now 0-1 on the year.
The Scots forced one turnover with
Jason Crawford Jr.'s interception and converted 2 of 6 third downs plus their lone fourth-down try, but finished the first quarter with 25 rushing yards and 18 passing yards. East Tex. Baptist had 36 rushing yards and 59 passing yards, and Paul Woodard's 13-yard touchdown run accounted for the quarter's only touchdown as the Scots trailed 7-0.
East Tex. Baptist outscored the Scots 21-0 in the second quarter, going 3-for-3 in the red zone with two passing touchdowns and one rushing score. The Scots had 75 passing yards, including four catches for 46 yards by
Javarion Williams, but were held to minus-15 rushing yards and finished 0-for-2 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down.
East Tex. Baptist outscored the Scots 16-0 in the third quarter, scoring on all three red-zone trips and going 5-for-5 on third down. The visitors totaled 84 rushing yards and 93 passing yards in the quarter, while the Scots were held to 8 rushing yards and 9 passing yards, went 1-for-4 on third down and trailed 44-0 entering the fourth.
The Scots' fourth-quarter scoring came on a 13-play, 77-yard drive that used 5:39 and ended with
Grayson Johnson's 1-yard touchdown run. East Tex. Baptist scored twice in the quarter and finished the segment with 82 rushing yards and 50 passing yards, while the Scots had 35 rushing yards, 47 passing yards and eight first downs. The Scots fell 58-7.
Grayson Johnson completed 19 of 31 passes for 149 yards and rushed for a touchdown.
Javarion Williams caught five passes for 53 yards, while
Kingston Herring also recorded five receptions for 35 yards.
Kyo Randall led the Scots with eight tackles, and
Zander Week added six.
Jason Crawford Jr. recorded an interception for the defense.
Scots football will hit the road heading to Jacksonville, Illinois to face Illinois College on Saturday, September 12th at 6:00 PM in England Stadium.
