Sherman, TX - Competing in the Austin College Tournament, Scots fought hard but fell against Concordia University (25-21, 18-25, 17-25, 16-25) and could not find the win against Austin College (15-25, 18-25, 12-25). Lyon volleyball is now 0-3 on the season.

Lyon 1, Concordia 3
After Concordia (Texas) moved ahead 3-1, the Scots put together nine straight points to lead 10-3, with
Sofia Santis serving the final eight and recording three aces around kills by
Pascha Wistrand,
Reyleigh Twist and
Keeley Beary. The Scots later stretched the margin to 14-6 on kills by
Ryan Russell and Twist, but Concordia (Texas) worked back to 16-14 and, after Beary's kill and a attack error helped the Scots reach 19-14, narrowed it again to 19-17. The Scots answered with kills by Beary and Twist and a Santis ace to make it 23-17, and Wistrand put away two late kills, including the final point after Concordia (Texas) had closed within 24-21, to finish the set 25-21.
The Scots stayed even early on kills by Beary and Wistrand, but Concordia (Texas) moved from a 2-2 tie to an 8-3 lead with help at the net. Concordia stretched the margin to 12-4, before the Scots worked back with kills from
Morgan Harrelson, Neveah Ghan, Russell and Beary and a Beary ace that made it 17-12. After Concordia led 18-13, Harrelson put down two kills around a Twist ace to bring the Scots within 18-16. Concordia answered with five straight points, including two aces, and after late Scots kills by Harrelson and Russell, Concordia finished the set 25-18.
After Beary and Wistrand kills helped the Scots edge ahead 2-1, Concordia (Texas) moved in front 7-3 with a series of plays before a Scots timeout. Concordia (Texas) pushed the margin to 13-4 during a six-point run that included five Scots attack errors, but Russell had two kills and
Olivia Locke served an ace in a four-point Scots stretch that cut the score to 14-9. Concordia (Texas) stopped that stretch with a kill and a Scots attack error, then moved to 20-12 on an ace. The Scots added late points on a Harrelson kill and a Concordia (Texas) error, but after a service error made it 24-17, the set closed with a kill for a 25-17 Concordia (Texas) win.
The Scots scored the first three points of the fourth set behind two Harrelson kills and a Concordia (Texas) attack error, then stayed in front 6-3 after another Harrelson kill from
Jenna Good. Concordia (Texas) answered with seven straight points to move ahead 10-6, with two aces and a kill during the stretch. Wistrand helped the Scots side out three times as the set moved to 13-9, but Concordia (Texas) scored the next five points to push the margin to 18-9. The Scots put together a late three-point stretch, including a Harrelson block and a Wistrand kill from
Ella Gardner, before Concordia (Texas) delivered a kill and a service ace to close Concordia (Texas)'s 25-16 set win.
Beary led the Scots with 12 kills while hitting .611 and added a service ace. Locke collected a team-high 16 digs, added six assists and served one ace. Santis recorded four service aces and eight digs. Gardner finished with 17 assists and 11 digs.
Lyon 0, Austin 3
Neveah Ghan opened the set with a kill from
Jenna Good, but Austin took the next five points to move in front 5-1 and later led 8-3 when the Scots called timeout. A block point made it 9-5, then Austin scored seven straight points to build a 16-5 lead. With Austin ahead 17-7, the Scots won seven of the next eight rallies behind four kills from Ghan to pull within 18-14. Austin answered with five straight points to push the lead to 23-14, and after a
Keeley Beary kill, closed the set with kill and ace of their own 25-15.
After Austin opened the second set with a kill and a service ace for a 2-0 lead, the Scots scored six straight, getting three Beary kills and consecutive
Sofia Santis aces to move in front 6-2. Austin kept working back with kills and a kill followed by two Scots attack errors put Austin ahead 13-12. The Scots answered with an attack error, a Beary kill and an attack error to take a 15-13 lead, but Austin tied it at 15-15 and continued through a serving stretch that included three aces, a block and kills for a 21-15 advantage. The Scots got late kills from
Morgan Harrelson and
Pascha Wistrand, but Austin reached 24-17 on an assist and closed the set 25-18 on another kill.
The Scots opened the third set with consecutive block points, as Beary and Ghan combined on the first and another team effort on the next for a 2-0 lead. Austin answered with eight straight points to move ahead 8-2, getting kills and several block points before Ghan stopped the run with a kill from
Ella Gardner. The Scots worked back to 11-16 behind kills by
Reyleigh Twist and Wistrand, Good's ace and an Austin attack error, but Austin followed with six consecutive points to reach 22-11. After a service error gave the Scots their final point, Austin scored the last three, ending the set at 25-12 on a Beary attack error blocked by Austin.
Beary led the Scots with seven kills and 10.0 points, adding five blocks. She achieved a season-high total of five blocks. Gardner finished with 11 assists and eight digs. Santis served two aces and collected seven digs. Ghan added six kills and two blocks.
Scots volleyball will travel to Irving, TX to compete in the University of Dallas Invitational facing Paul Quinn University and the University of Dallas on Saturday, August 5th starting at 9:00 AM.
