ELSAH, Ill. – The Lyon College volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday at the Crafton Center, defeating Knox College in four sets before completing the day with a dominant three-set sweep of Principia College. The Scots opened the day by overcoming a narrow 28-26 loss in the first set against Knox before winning the next three sets, 25-10, 25-8 and 25-17. Lyon then carried its momentum into the afternoon, sweeping Principia, 25-19, 25-11 and 25-12. With these two victories, Lyon improves to 3-8 overall in their 2026 season.
Lyon 3, Knox 1
Set One: Knox 28, Lyon 26
The opening set was the most tightly contested frame of the first match, with Lyon and Knox battling through multiple ties before the Prairie Fire eventually secured the extended-set victory. Lyon held its own offensively throughout the set, finishing with 13 kills, but Knox managed to withstand the Scots' attack and take the opening frame, 28-26.
Set Two: Lyon 25, Knox 10
Lyon responded immediately in the second set, flipping the momentum and putting together its most dominant stretch of the match. The Scots limited Knox to just five kills while committing only four attack errors. Lyon's offense produced 12 kills and hit .258 in the set, allowing the Scots to pull away for a 25-10 victory and even the match at one set apiece.
Set Three: Lyon 25, Knox 8
The Scots continued to control the match in the third set. Lyon's attack became increasingly efficient, recording 12 kills against just two errors for a .323 hitting percentage. Knox struggled to generate consistent offense, hitting -.053 in the frame. The Scots closed the set with a 25-8 victory, moving ahead 2-1 in the match.
Set Four: Lyon 25, Knox 17
Lyon completed the comeback in the fourth set, again controlling the offensive tempo. The Scots recorded 13 kills while hitting .278, while Knox managed a .263 hitting percentage. Lyon maintained its advantage throughout the final frame to secure the 25-17 win and close out the four-set victory.
Keeley Beary led the Scots with a match-high 20 kills, hitting .375 on 40 attacks. She also added four blocks for a team-high 22.5 points. Reyleigh Twist contributed 11 kills, while Ryan Russell added five kills and Morgan Harrelson finished with three kills, a service ace and three blocks. Ella Gardner directed the Lyon offense with 27 assists, while Chaney McCance added 25 digs and four assists. Gardner also contributed 13 digs and four service aces.
Lyon 3, Principia 0
Set One: Lyon 25, Principia 19
The Scots faced their closest set of the afternoon in the opener against Principia. The set featured seven tie scores and four lead changes as both teams battled for control. Lyon ultimately separated itself late, using its offensive efficiency to close out the 25-19 victory. The Scots recorded 15 kills and hit .273 in the opening frame.
Set Two: Lyon 25, Principia 11
After the back-and-forth opening set, Lyon took control in the second. The Scots limited Principia to a .111 hitting percentage while committing just one attack error themselves. Lyon's offense continued to find success, recording 10 kills, and the Scots pulled away for a 25-11 victory to take a 2-0 match lead.
Set Three: Lyon 25, Principia 12
Lyon closed the match in dominant fashion, producing its most efficient offensive set of the afternoon. The Scots recorded 15 kills on 24 attacks with just three errors, hitting .500 as a team. Principia managed six kills and hit .160 in the frame as Lyon pulled away to a 25-12 victory, completing the sweep.
Beary once again led the Lyon attack, finishing with 11 kills and hitting .304. Russell turned in one of his most efficient performances of the day, recording seven kills on 11 attacks for a .455 hitting percentage. Pascha Wistrand added five kills without committing an error, hitting .714, while Nevaeh Ghan recorded four kills on seven attacks for a .571 hitting percentage. Twist contributed six kills, and Harrelson added three kills while hitting .429.
Chaney McCance helped anchor the defensive effort with 11 digs and added four assists and four service aces. Ella Gardner recorded 15 assists and six digs, while Jenna Good contributed 12 assists and three service aces. Sofia Santis added eight digs and two service aces. As a team, Lyon hit .357 for the match and finished with 40 kills, 14 service aces and 42 digs.
