Batesville, AR – Lyon College Fighting Scots men's soccer opened the season with a hard-fought draw against Division III foe Hendrix College. The Scots begin the season 0-0-1.
The Scots came out strong, generating four shots in the first half and five more after the break.
Matheus Nunes and
Tiago Donadon led Lyon with three shots each, while
Inaki Terra added two shots. Terra also found the back of the net for the Scots' lone goal of the first half.
Henrique Megale started in goal and recorded five saves while deflecting six shots.
Lyon College opened the match with aggressive offensive energy, dictated heavily by
Matheus Nunes, who recorded early shots on goal and kept the pressure high. The breakthrough for Lyon arrived at the 24:43 mark when
Inaki Terra found the back of the net to put his team ahead 1-0. Defensively,
Henrique Megale stood tall in goal, denying an early attempt from Hendrix to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard. Lyon's defensive unit played a physical first half, though it led to early disciplinary trouble, including a yellow card assessed to
Roman Magnanelli in the 38th mile marker. Scots would lock down the 1-0 advantage heading into the halftime locker room.
In the second half, goalkeeper
Henrique Megale anchored the Scots' defense, delivering a standout performance with four crucial saves to limit Hendrix's persistent attacking pressure.
Tiago Donadon energized the offensive unit, generating multiple scoring opportunities and forcing a sharp save from the Warriors' keeper. Midfielder
Merrick Luibel also contributed a shot attempt to push for a late game-winner. Defensively, Lyon played with aggressive physicality, which resulted in yellow cards issued to
Andre Rodriguez and
Salvador Fernandez during tense moments late in the match. Halfway through the second half, the Warriors would capitalize on shot to bring the score to 1-1. Scots tried to fight back to regain control but were unable to.
