Wright joins Men's Basketball coaching staff

Batesville, AR – Lyon College head men's basketball coach Thomas Orr has appointed Kyle Wright as his new assistant coach.

"I am extremely excited for the hiring of Kyle Wright; I have known Coach Wright since his playing days at Texarkana High School." Said Orr. "His work ethic as a player led him to having an outstanding playing career, he is the perfect example of culture buy in. Coach Wright will bring a great depth of knowledge and energy to the development of our players. He spends the majority of his summer as a PGC (Point Guard College) director and will bring that unique experience to our program."

Wright brings a wealth of experience from both his playing and coaching career. A distinguished student-athlete, he began his collegiate career at Texas A&M University–Texarkana before transferring to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. He was a member of the Crusaders squad that made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament, ending their season in the Elite 8 in 2022 and Sweet 16 in 2023. Wright also earned All-Conference honors in both 2022 and 2023.

Following his playing career, Wright joined the staff at Western Texas College as a volunteer assistant coach. There, he led strength and conditioning efforts, assisted with player development, recruiting, scouting, and day to day operations. During his tenure at Western Texas, he helped coached an NJCAA Freshman of the Year and secured four victories over Top 25 opponents. Currently, he serves as a Point Guard College Camp Director helping shape young athletes all around the country.

"I am super blessed for the opportunity to impact so many lives, develop great basketball players and leaders, and help build a championship level culture at Lyon College," said Wright.

Born in Florida but raised in Texarkana, Texas, Wright graduated with a Bachelor's of Business Administration and a minor in Marketing from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
