O'Fallon, MO – Scots baseball season comes to a close in the Semifinal round of the SLIAC Tournament. After an incredible performance the previous day, Scots would face Webster ultimately falling in a 13-5 loss then being eliminated by Westminster 26-5.
Game 1
Lyon 5, Webster 13
The Scots struck first with back-to-back doubles from Eli Marcotte and Ashton Compton, giving the Scots a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Webster would respond in the second to tie it, 1-1, before erupting for three runs in the third and four more in the fourth behind multiple extra-base hits and home runs to build an 8-1 advantage.
Lyon responded in the fifth inning when Jarius Edwards doubled, moved to third on a bunt from Caleb Collins, then later scored on a sacrifice fly from Marcotte. Lyon continued to chip away in the sixth as Tyler Hahn and Kooper McCoy reached base ahead of a three-run homer from Swallow that cut the deficit to 8-5.
Scots would not hold the lead for long as the Gorloks responded in the bottom of the 6th wtih three runs of their own off a double and a two-run homer to left field to extend the lead, 11-5. Lyon's next three turns at the the plated quickly with batters being retired in order.
Swallow led offensively with two hits, a home run, and three RBI, while Marcotte added a double, RBI, and two runs scored. Hahn, McCoy, and Edwards each recorded hits. Starting pitcher Jonah Wilkerson went for 3.0 innings recording 3 strikeouts, he was followed by Thomas Irwin for an additional 3.0 innings recording one strikeout for his time, Parker Paschal and Colton Will finished out the game with going one inning a piece.
Game 2
Lyon 5, Westminster 26
Westminster plated five runs in the opening inning and added two more in the second to quickly take control. The Blue Jays offense got hot and stayed that way with big hits and triples lead to a quick 7-0 lead.
Lyon broke through in the fourth inning when McCoy reached on a walk before Inman launched a two-run home run to right center to put the Scots on the board, 7-2.
The Blue Jays continued their offensive surge adding nine runs through the 5th and 6th, this continued through to the 8th inning when a rain delay put a stop to things. Scots would score three mores runs in the remainder of the game. With Compton's double setting up for him to score off another double from Hahn in the 8th, later in the 9th Cash Arnhart would drive in a run and Misael Santiago would score off a wild pitch.
Marcotte recorded two hits in the contest, while Inman drove in two runs with his home run. Hahn added a double and RBI, and McCoy reached base three times. Scots used 10 pitchers in this game, collectively recording six strikeouts.
Lyon finishes its season 29-15 overall, #3 in the SLIAC standings, and having made the conference tournament semifinals in its first year of eligibility.
