Scots break records in their opener against Spalding

O'FALLON, Mo. — In the opening semifinal round of the SLIAC tournament, the Lyon College Scots secured a decisive 21-10 victory over the Spalding University Golden Eagles. Scots are now 29-13 on the season.
 
Lyon surged ahead in the fourth inning, beginning with Ashton Compton's single. Tyler Hahn's double drove in two runs, and Slade Inman grounded out to bring in another, tying the game at 3-3. The Golden Eagles responded in the bottom half with three runs, reclaiming the lead at 4-3.
 
The fifth inning saw the Scots' offense explode for 12 runs. Jarius Edwards started it with a single and stolen base, then scored on Eli Marcotte's double. Compton continued the momentum with an RBI double. After a series of hits and an error, Landon Swallow's three-run homer extended the lead. Bramlett capped the inning with a three-run homer, making it 15-4.
 
In the eighth inning, the Scots added two more runs. Swallow doubled in a run, and Compton was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, pushing the score to 17-10. The Golden Eagles managed one run in their half, leaving the score at 17-10.
 
The Scots sealed the game in the ninth with four runs. Hahn and Kooper McCoy scored on Edwards' single. Caleb Collins followed with an RBI single, and Compton drove in the final run, securing a 21-10 victory over Spalding. Breaking the SLIAC record for runs scored in a conference tournament game.
 
Rocco Boyle started on the mound for the Scots, delivering 2/3 inning, allowing one earned run on one hit with three walks and no strikeouts across 24 pitches. Jackson Smith followed, pitching 4 2/3 innings and surrendering seven earned runs on eight hits, with four walks and three strikeouts over 94 pitches. Carter Sprague struggled with control, facing several batters without recording an out, allowing three walks and two wild pitches in his brief appearance. Cale Slaten provided some stability, completing 3 2/3 innings with two earned runs on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts, throwing 48 pitches.
 
Looking ahead, the Scots will take on the Webster University Gorloks tomorrow, May 5th, at 2:30 PM.
